August 27, 2008, Marks Another Milestone for Pastor D. A. & Mrs.
Yvonne Waite.
When D. A. Waite graduated from Berea High School in 1945, his
father told him he couldn’t marry his high school sweetheart until
he graduated from college. So he promptly enrolled in the University
of Michigan and crammed four years into three. After completing his
undergraduate degree in 1948, he married Yvonne Sanborn—a fellow
member of Berea’s class of 1945 and a recent graduate of Moody Bible
Institute.
It was a hot summer day when Yvonne and D A were joined in
matrimony at the Graton Road Baptist Church—a small country church
that moved to Berea when its property was sold to make way for the
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The couple spent their first years of marriage (1948-1953) in
Dallas, Texas, so D. A. could earn Th.M. and Th.D. degrees from
Dallas Theological Seminary and an M.A. from SMU. From Texas they
journeyed to Ohio, and then to Lafayette, Indiana, for Ph.D. studies
at Purdue (1954-1956). The next stop, courtesy of Uncle Sam, took
the growing family to Florida (1956-1958)—while D.A., now a navy
chaplain, was deployed in Okinawa for a year. The U.S. Navy then
whisked them all away to New Jersey followed by a tour of duty in
Texas (1959-1961). After Chaplain Waite was decommissioned from the
service, the Waites relocated to Massachusetts, where D. A. served
in two pastorates (1961-1965). Finally, in the summer of 1965,
Yvonne and Dr. Waite moved to their current house in Collingswood,
New Jersey.
Pastor and Mrs. Waite are the parents of five children: Donald
Allen, Jr. (married to Jeanette) of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland;
David William who died suddenly on April 15, 2008; Richard Norman,
Sr. (married to Lorraine) of Lusby, Maryland; Audrey Dianne (married
to Reggie Cosby) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Daniel Stephen
(married to Tamara) of Collingswood, New Jersey.
They have eight grandchildren: Richard Norman, Jr. (married to
Summer), Jonathan David, Jacob Daniel, Sr. (married to Amber),
Kristen Dianne, Elizabeth Ann (married to Justin Frank), Megan
Yvonne, Rebecca Lynn, and Anna Marie. They are also the proud great
grandparents of s even
great-grandchildren.
Don, Richard, Dianne, and Dan—together with their
spouses—successfully engineered a surprise 60th
anniversary celebration on Saturday, August 23 at Tamara and
Daniel’s house.

SYMBOL AND OUR PURPOSE

The SYMBOL of THE BIBLE FOR TODAY centers around an open Bible. This signifies that the principles of the
bible are the exclusive principles which form the
FOUNDATION of THE BIBLE FOR TODAY. The shield pictures "the shield of
faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked" (Ephesians
6:16). On the left of the shield, the darkness is seen encroaching; on the right of the shield, the light is controlling. Down the center of
the shield is a sword, representing the "sword of the Spirit, which is the Word
of God" (Ephesians 6:17). It
is the Spirit’s "Sword" of "the Word of God" which pierces and divides between
the light and the darkness.
- The overarching
PURPOSE of THE BIBLE FOR TODAY is to proclaim and to defend the principles of the Bible (Philippians
1:7). We believe the Bible is plenarily and verbally
inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17),
and consequently inerrant and infallible! We feel that Biblical principles must
not only be proclaimed positively, but also be defended against all infiltration
of anti-Biblical heresies or aberrations.
