Bible For Today UPDATE

IF I COULD
PAINT A LOVELY PICTURE THAT WOULD SHOW THE JOY THAT'S IN MY
SOUL I'D SIT BEFORE AN EASEL
AND PAINT
UNTIL I REACHED MY GOAL
WITH
TEARS IN MY HEART
My mother wrote the words to the poem that I will be quoting you in this
UPDATE. It was the year after my
husband and I graduated from Berea
High School in 1945.
Her name was GERTRUDE SANBORN. I've told
you about her before. Perhaps, by now, you have her book of poems, WITH TEARS
IN MY HEART (BFT #3196 @ $25.00 + $5.00 S&H ask for quantity prices). My
mother was not a painter with brush and colors, but she was a word-smith. Not
only that, she knew the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and His Words,
as well as any lay person you have ever met. Her poems reach right into the
heart of the reader and leave a seed from God's truth planted there. IF YOU ARE
LOOKING FOR A GIFT FOR A SPECIAL LOVED-ONE, GIVE THE PERSON THIS POEM BOOK. It
will bring comfort, peace, and joy! NOT ONLY TO YOU but to others.
Usually we ask for a gift of $25.00 for one copy of WITH TEARS IN
MY HEART (BFT #3196); but I want you to have this special book at a
special price!
So send $15.00 + $5.00 for S &
H and our BFT shipper will send it as soon as he can.
OUR
UNSEEN TEARS
Recently I went
upstairs to our third floor to straighten up.
We were having a missionary couple as
guests and I had to clean out the baby crib for her little girl. Throughout the
years, with no baby in it, I'd filled it with boxes of papers--mostly old
letters. So I spent many hours up there immersed in the past. Saw my Great
Grandmother Van Tassel’s baptismal certificate from 1884. I also read Great
Uncle George Fairbanks' review of my Sanborn heritage as he wrote my favorite
aunt. He called her “Alcenia.” I knew her as Aunt Florence. (Evidently her name
was Alcenia Florence Sanborn Harrington--named after Grandma's sister.) I found
out we were “English” with just enough "Irish" in us to give us a sense of
humor.
Anyhow, while there, I read some of my mother's words. I
want to pass them on to you. She
always told me that her mother, my Grandma Barker, always said that she had
double tears. She had tears for my mother's griefs--for me in the hospital at
age three, for my sister Beverly's retardation from birth, and for my other
sister's untimely death at twenty. Then Grandma had tears for her granddaughters
as they suffered and endured. Double cries for Jenny Barker! But, as I think of
it, my grandmother's sorrow was tripled with the
illness
of our son.
Grandmothers’
sorrows are real also. We are
people, too! I know because I am one. Each person who has sorrows, sicknesses,
or pain has to bear his or her own care; but when those we love are bent over
with such griefs, we who love them hurt also. We cry unseen tears.
Anyhow as I
was alone upstairs, it was almost like I was on "holy ground." I found
the following words written by Gertrude
Sanborn on July 15, 1985–three years before she died. (That happens to be
one of my granddaughters’ birthday.) Mother wrote about
"The Line of Tears."
THE
LINE OF TEARS
"TEARS ARE OUR UNSEEN SOBS FOR
OUR DEAR ONES WHO ARE AFFLICTED."
IF I COULD SING A SONG LIKE ANGELS.
I’D CLIMB THE HIGHEST HILL
AND SING I’D SWELL THE MUSIC
FORTH FOREVER
FOR THE THEME OF SONG IS MY KING. I don't know about you, but
I am at "sixes &
sevens" most of the time.
I
feel like a bumblebee going from flower to
flower, from one job to another, from one room to another, from one meeting to
another, from one letter to another, from one mess to another, from one phone
call to another, from one sickness to another, from one problem to another, etc.
etc. etc. I seem to be in one constant spin most of the time! No wonder I'm
tired! If it were not for the Lord Jesus Christ in my life, I think I would have
spun out a long time ago. How about you?
THE
LITTLE BROWN BAG
THANK
YOU FOR YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT
I KEEP PRAISING GOD
FOR HIMSELF, FOR YOU, & FOR IT!
IF I COULD
GIVE A GREAT ORATION AND MOVE MY AUDIENCE TO TEARS ,
I’D STAND UPON MY FEET AND GESTURE
AND KEEP ON SPEAKING THRU THE YEARS.
THE
LEAVING & CLEAVING PRINCIPLE
Recently
I made
five radio programs for “JUST FOR WOMEN.”
I had to do most of them over because I
have the hardest time remembering what to do now that I've moved up to the
latest technology using CD's instead of audio cassettes. Last month I spoke on
all five tracks on marriage (JFWCD#99 @ $15.00 + $4.00
S&H)--"The Leaving & Cleaving Principle"
(Genesis 2:24); "Jesus & Moses on Marriage" (Matthew 19:4-6);
"Marriage & Elderly Parents" (I Timothy 5:4,8); "Interfering In-laws"
(Genesis 2:24); & "Forgiveness in
Marriage" (Ephesians 4:32) Having been married for fifty-nine years,
I think that I am familiar with the subject.
POST
MODERNISM--WHAT IS IT?
But I really wanted to tell you about the RADIO DISK I just completed
last week. The first track is a
reading (by me) of H. D. WILLIAMS, M.D., Ph.D.'s article from a recent
DEAN BURGON SOCIETY NEWS on
"POST MODERNISM--WHAT IS IT?" I have learned so much from it. I know you
will, too. You can ask for the
DBS NEWS (April-July/ 2007)--send
a couple dollars for postage or get
the radio CD--JFWCD#100
for a gift of $15.00 + $4.00 S&H.
(An audio cassette is $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). I learned about the
"both/and"
philosophy. I was brought up on the
"either/or” way of looking at life--"black & white"
thinking. This POST MODERNISM article has helped me understand why people LIE to
me--even so-called born-again Christians. I remember a few years ago some guests
from a different continent promised they would be with us on a certain day and
promised to be with others at the same time. Recently a gentleman signed a
statement agreeing with a certain belief-system, and then in a few days
manifested agreement in another belief system--negating his signed statement.
How can anyone be trusted with such confusion?
IF I COULD WRITE A
BOOK AS GREAT MEN. I'D WRITE WITH INK OF PUREST GOLD.
I'D UNDERLINE THE
WORD REDEEMER;
I 'D WRITE TILL
EVERYTHING WAS TOLD.
WHAT'S
WITH ALL THE CLEAVAGE?
I really did not mean to go on and on about my “JUST FOR WOMEN”
program--excuse me!
Dr. Waite and I have
been extremely disturbed at the looseness of dress that we have viewed on the
Television with the women newscasters.
It seems that they major in "cleavage" as well as the news. Someday, it
wouldn't surprise me if these newscasters & anchor women dress like the old
Roman woman--half covered on one side of their chest and completely exposed on
the other. But more than that, I've noticed that
Christian women are popping out all over. SO I'VE MADE FOUR RADIO
PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN ON THE SUBJECT.
Track #2:
"WHY
SO MUCH CLEAVAGE? (1 Peter 3:1-6);
Track #3:
"NAKEDNESS—WHAT IS IT? #1" (Genesis 3:7; Genesis 3:21);
Track #4:
"NAKEDNESS: WHAT IS IT? #2'' (Exodus 28:42);
Track #5: "WOMAN, HOW DO
YOU DRESS?" (1 Timothy 2:9) I think it is time for Christian women to be
on guard that we don't give the wrong message to the world when we pop out all
over the place in our dress. What is your opinion?
Pastor
Waite had been preaching through the book of Colossians in our BIBLE FOR TODAY
BAPTIST CHURCH which has
met in our home for nine years in October. I was taken with Colossians 4:5 as he was
teaching us.
"WALK IN WISDOM TOWARD THEM THAT ARE WITHOUT,
REDEEMING THE TIME."
What does
"walking" really mean?
I
guess we don't need an explanation of the
process, do we? We remember when our children were little and they learned to
walk. Oh, how they wanted to
"walk"!
They did not care if they had their diapers
on or if they had anything on, for that matter. (I miss those little children.)
They wanted to get someplace fast, and were they ever proud when they got there!
The Apostle Paul did not say
"run"
in wisdom, or "skip" in wisdom, or
"swim "
in wisdom. He said,
"walk."
I understand that walking is supposed to
be the best exercise, especially when there is some speed to it. When I read
this verse, I couldn't help thinking of all the women that I have seen lately
"walking" around in various
degrees of "nakedness." Are adult women and grown-up little girls so
intent, like a toddler, at getting someplace that they do not realize they are
not dressed in "wisdom," and are poorly representing the Lord Jesus
Christ in that "walk"?
A friend just called and said that I should put the
“WHY
SO MUCH CLEAVAGE?”,
as
well as the other radio programs on "nakedness," in print.
Good idea. When
will
I do that?--between blood tests, and company
every week end? --and the girl that has been cleaning my house has gone back to
college! No wonder one of my friends my age opted for a nursing home!
A
REVIEW OF THE DEAN BURGON SOCIETY--2007
In July of 2007, the twenty-ninth annual meeting of the Dean Burgon
Society was held at PASTOR J. P. RENO'S CHURCH in Hagerstown, MD. My husband has been the president and a
major moving force in the DBS for all those years. If you were not there, you
can view most of the speakers. Ask for BFT #3329 @$25.00 + $5.00 S&H. This is a"gift"
to the ministry for the DVD’s. (We also have the meeting on VHS, and audio
cassettes). Dr. Waite's talk on "BIBLE FALSEHOODS OF MICHAEL SPROUL"
was outstanding. He's writing a book answering SPROUL now between the phone
calls and E-mails. VICE PRESIDENT BARNETT from Michigan gave the kick-off talk
on "Believing God. " Another VICE PRESIDENT, DR. H. D. WILLIAMS, talked
on "THE VOICE OF GOD." PASTOR MICHAEL MONTE makes us laugh, getting his points
across in "COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH SPIRITUAL." MR. JAMES
GRUMBLATT spoke on "RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH," while PASTOR
RENO had us "LOOK AT OTHER LANGUAGE BIBLES." Dr. BOB DOOM’S "THE MESS IN THE
MESSAGE" was excellent. DANIEL WAITE'S continuing series called "DBS—THEN
AND NOW" was arresting! It was good to see & hear DR. JACK MOORMAN on a DVD
from England. I must not forget PASTOR KEN RAINEY'S "A GOOD SOLDIER OF JESUS
CHRIST, " or REV. DAVID HOLLOWOOD's continuing series on "TRUTH, " or
MARK RENO'S "BIBLE VERSIONS--WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?" DR.
BRAININE was there, too, with a scholarly subject-- "THE EARLY DATE OF THE
TRADITIONAL TEXT. "
I would be remiss, if
I did not mention THE DEAN BURGON WOMEN. We had excellent speakers. Two
of them were LORETTA SPANGLER from Maryland who spoke on "THE DEFENSE OF THE
KING JAMES BIBLE" (Her written paper is BFT #3326 @ $3.00 +$2.00 S&H) and
PATRICIA WILLIAMS who spoke about "SPURGEON’S LIFE & THE DOWNGRADE
CONTROVERSY. " You can order the DBS Women's DVD #3330DVD1 ($15.00 + $5.00
S&H), audio cassette, or VHS. Call the BFT office order line: 1-800-John 10:9.
Think it was one of the best Women's meetings we ever had.
BUT I AM BUT A SIMPLE PERSON; I CANNOT PAINT, NOR WRITE, NOR SING, SO,
I'LL BOW MY HEART AND PRAY AND PRAISE HIM. THUS TO CHRIST MY WITNESS
BRING.
Under God’s wise care & strengthening grace (I Corinthians 15:10)
Yvonne S. Waite ( for
Dr. Waite, too.)
