A HORNETS’ NEST
STIRRED UP
It seems that by his being in GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, DR.
D. A. WAITE stirred up a hornets’ nest! How was he to know?All PASTOR KENNETH RAINEY (the pastor of WAYSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH--2091
Howlong Avenue, Greenville, SC 29609), DID WAS STAND FOR THE OLD PATHS WHEN HE
INVITED DR. WAITE TO TEACH ON THE DEFENSE OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE AND ITS
UNDERLYING WORDS. Then, it seems, that the church’s song leader,
who was a retired pastor with close ties to BOB JONES UNIVERSITY, got shook up!
He influenced others to leave the church--and most of them fled in a hurry. They
were there one Sunday, as usual, and gone the next. Some who didn’t immediately
flee soon left also. Who would have thought that faithful church members would
succumb to such a whispering campaign? Well, I know, from personal experience,
how that can be, don’t you? But praise the Lord, PASTOR RAINEY stood firm in his
Bible version convictions and God gave the church excellent meetings that week.

THE INCONSISTENCY OF BOB JONES UNIVERSITY
When my husband teaches THE DEFENSE OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE &
ITS UNDERLYING TEXTS, he uses many power-point pictures. Usually, within that presentation, he does mention the
inconsistency of Bob Jones University’s position on the King James
Bible--but he usually doesn’t make a meal of it. But, in May 20-23 of ‘07, some
of the Greenville BJU friends feared the "meal," and took off with as much
slander as they could muster against Dr. Waite, his character, and his teaching.
You see, just in case you don’t know it, there used to be a rule--and it might
still be,--that the King James Bible was the only version that was to be used on
the BJU auditorium platform. But in the classroom--especially the Greek and
Bible study classrooms, it is a different story. In fact, there was a sign on
that public pulpit that said so--at least it used to be there.
When our daughter was a student at BJU in the middle ‘70's,
she had an occasion to be on that platform and saw the sign with her own eyes.
It bewildered her somewhat for in one of her classes,
her teacher had instructed her, and others in the class, to get the NEW
AMERICAN STANDARD version of the Bible to read, study, and memorize.
It seemed inconsistent! It was a shock to her to be asked to change Bibles, for
she already knew hundreds of Bible verses from the KING JAMES BIBLE. To her it
was a double standard: the NASV recommended in the classroom but forbidden on
the public platform of the University. Perhaps now in 2007 that warning version
sign is no longer found on that public podium with the recent change in
Presidents.
GETTING BACK TO THE HORNETS’ NEST!
What a surprise for PASTOR RAINEY
when faithful members of his church requested him to un-invite Dr. Waite!
The pastor was told that my husband was a dangerous man, that
he was a heretic, and that he preached false doctrine. Can you imagine that? The
truth was that my husband’s beliefs about the validity of the Authorized Version
and the
corruption of the NESTLE /ALAND & UNITED BIBLE SOCIETIES
texts--patterned after WESTCOTT & HORT’s 1881 Greek Text--were Pastor Rainey’s
beliefs, too. He had come to the same conclusions (as Dr. Waite) when Pastor
Rainey was in Seminary studying Greek and Hebrew. He didn’t even know Dr. Waite
then, and never heard of the DEAN BURGON SOCIETY.
"The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords."

WAYSIDE BAPTIST WAS A "DAVID"
WITH FIVE SMOOTH STONES & A SLINGSHOT
THANK YOU FOR PRAYING FOR THOSE GREENVILLE MEETINGS that were
held May 20-23, 2007 at WAYSIDE BAPTIST. Wayside
Baptist Church is only about four-years old. It was a small "David" church with
five smooth stones and a slingshot. Because of the unexpected in-house
opposition to his ministry, Dr. Waite refuted more than usually the anti-KJB
teachings of BJU in regard to their approval of the Critical Greek Text and
their opposition to the Textus Receptus Greek Text underlying the King James
Bible. Also because of this criticism, we had our son bring his recording and
"streaming" equipment. (Usually Dr. Waite and I travel alone.) Daniel had wires
all over that building, beaming the defense of the KJB message around the world.
The QUESTION & ANSWER periods after each teaching session were surprising and
good. People from every nook and cranny of the country and the world tuned in.
Many sent us E-mails during the meetings.

WHY WE STARTED A HOME CHURCH
Sundays: 10:00 A.M., 1:30 P.M.; Thursdays 8:00 P.M. (Eastern)
"THIS IS THE WAY, WALK YE IN IT!"
When Dr. Waite started our HOME CHURCH, he had no idea there
was a national or global organized "home church" movement. He only knew that it
was what he had to do. He felt it was the Lord’s will. He felt that as if God
were saying to him, "This is the way walk ye in it!" So, in October of
1998, we took all the furniture out of our living room and filled it with
"church" chairs and purchased a pulpit and sound system! We already had a grand
piano and an organ.
A NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH IN OUR HOUSE
I don’t know what others do in their "home" churches, but we
are a traditional church in every way. I PERSONALLY believe that we are more of
a NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH than many who meet in a church building. Today, there is
such a straying from the "old paths," the old ways, and the knowledge of
God that you may be asking, "What are the old paths?"
First of all, meeting in a house is very "OLD PATH"! The
first Christians met in houses. We read of this in the church history book
called THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES. Those early Christians did not have church
buildings or educational building, not alone gymnasiums and dining halls.
Simply: those who loved Jesus Christ gathered together in small groups in rooms
where families loved and lived.
A HUMBLING GATHERING
They also gathered by the riverside or in the synagogues for
discussions. They "broke bread" together from house to house remembering
Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. They sang songs and Psalms--praising
God together without worship leaders and paid musicians. They heard the WORDS OF
GOD, expounded by the apostles and the elders who loved it, as well as loving
the One who guided the Holy Men of Old to write it. There was a humbling about
such a gathering. It was expressed in the washing of the guests’ feet, by the
holy kiss, the quietness of the women, and the boldness of the preachers, and no
passing of an offering plate!
GOD’S WORDS REPLACED BY MAN’S THOUGHTS
Where has such simplicity gone TODAY? Where has the reverence
for the Words of God gone TODAY? It has been replaced by people’s own thoughts.
The meaning of a passage has been replaced by the telling of a story, or the
explaining away of this Word or that Word from the text.
TO TEACH GOD’S WORDS
So when Dr. Waite began our HOME CHURCH, it was to teach
GOD’S WORDS and what they meant. Not only what was meant for us today, but what
was meant down through the centuries from the days of Moses on Mt. Sinai, to the
days of Paul on Mars Hill, to our very day, the age in which we live!
NUMBERS NOT OUR GOAL
A CONSISTENCY OF BIBLE
TEACHING
I’ve learned much watching my husband pastor our BIBLE FOR
TODAY BAPTIST CHURCH in our home here at 900 Park Avenue. It would take pages to
tell. I’ve watched my husband be steadfast in his teaching and preaching of the
Words of God every Sunday. It does not matter to him if many are here or few, he
continues to prepare, preach, and teach. GREAT NUMBERS ARE NOT HIS GOAL. There
has been a consistency in his message. I’ve watched him "pastor" our Internet
attenders more than any pastor ever pastored me. I’ve seen him trust God for
numbers. I’ve seen him believe God for the finances as books are written,
missionaries are paid, radio bills are paid, and supplies are purchased. Some
months the pot is dried up and other months it has overflowed. There is never
too much. There is always a need. Yet, there is always enough. We stand amazed
and thankful! The Lord must touch the hearts and pocketbooks rather than
preaching about the offering plate.
HARD LESSONS LEARNED
O there have been heartaches! Families do not always get
along. Our church family has been no different. This was a hard lesson for me to
learn. I honestly thought everyone attending our home church loved me and each
other. I felt like I was their "mother" or a very good "friend." How surprised
was the truth. It was then I realized that our church was no different from
other churches with stained glass windows and pipe organs. It was then that I
realized that I must keep my eyes on the Lord and not on people or their
opinions of me.
WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THE SCOPE & REACH
OF THE BIBLE FOR TODAY
BAPTIST CHURCH?
SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION? "Why did Dr. Waite
start a HOME CHURCH?" Well, it was one Father’s day nine years ago after hearing
a typical "father’s day" message at the church where we were members. I guess it
was one too many topical messages for my husband! We were sitting in the parlor
with our son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. When out-of-the-blue, Dr.
Waite said, "I think I should start a church!" I do not know all the
thinking that went on in THIS HEART EXPRESSION. The conviction came and grew.
After prayer and thought, we called together anyone who was not already in a
church to gather in our living room. That was the beginning of VERSE BY VERSE
TEACHING at 900 Park Avenue, Collingswood, NJ. Scores of people have come and
sat in our church room. Some have stayed. More have left. As of this date, we
have 1,808 messages with a total of 1,464,447 "total page views" over
SermonAudio.com. There is an untold group that listens to our Internet Videos of
our services on their computers. So far, his teachings have found themselves
placed in seven verse-by-verse preaching books. This and the Internet was a
complete surprise to us when we opened our doors that first Sunday morning in
1998. Only thanksgiving and praise can be ours as we marvel at His leading in
our lives in this church ministry here at THE BIBLE FOR TODAY.

As I am finishing up this letter to you, news has come that
unmarried pregnant Jessie Davis’s body was found in a shallow grave in Summit
County, Ohio. The father of her two year-old child has
been arrested. He has been arraigned on two counts. Jessie lived in Canton,
Ohio. I remember Canton well. It is in STARK County. When I was a child, I lived
in a children’s hospital in Cuyahoga County. My parents lived in Canton. Daddy
was a manager for a sales company there. They had rented a house, had a garden,
and a room waiting for me. Unexpectedly, word came that if my parents did not
move back to Cuyahoga County, I could no longer be at that hospital. (This was
during the depression years .) So my parents had to move back to the county
where I was, leaving his managerial job, his home, his ripening garden, & the
room they had ready for my return. So I remember Canton!
If you recall, President William McKinley, our 25th
president, was assassinated in Buffalo, New York and was buried in Canton. I’ve
visited his grave and seen the McKinley National Monument twice. It is one of my
childhood memories. Jack Parr, Marilyn Manson, and Mother Angelica are from
Canton which is the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In the recent years, my husband and I were in Canton giving
THE TRIBUTE TO FANNY CROSBY in a church there.
