the gospel according to the power of God.

Dream not
too much of what you’ll do tomorrow,
How well
you’ll work another year;
Tomorrow’s
chance you do not need to borrow--
Today is
here.
SURROUNDED BY OUR STUFF
Well here we are again sitting in our familiar chairs, surrounded by our
“stuff,” and looking out the same windows.
Here we are--pushed into another
year--not that we don’t want to be here; but can’t help wondering how we
made it so far. Praise the Lord for every year! I don’t know how
old you are, but I know how old I am. “My days are swifter than a
weaver’s shuttle,” as the Bible says in Job 7:6. In his great
discouragement, Job said his days were spent “without hope.” He
was so ill, so empty, so discouraged. How can we criticize the man for
we--with far less adversity--have felt hopeless, too, at times.
DAILY PRESSURES
Jesus’ brother, James, was correct when he declared “Whereas ye know not
what shall be on the morrow (James 4:14a).
Take last week, for instance. I
would get up in the morning full of vigor to accomplish something--not sure
what, but “something.” Then the phone would ring, the doorbell, the
people running around my house--all the pressures of living popping into my
day--confusing my mission of writing to you and other friends.
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT’S DAY
My day is my life. Your day is your life. “For what is our
life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then
vanisheth away. . .” (James 4:14a).
Wasn’t it Eleanor Roosevelt who wrote a daily newspaper column called “My
Day”? (She got around.) Perhaps if her husband had loved her as a
husband should, and had no “secret sin” (Was her name Lucy?), Eleanor would
not have had time to dash around the world telling us of her day.
GOD’S HANDS HOLD SNOW STORMS & THE INTERNET
Anyhow--it’s not that I don’t enjoy
the people who drop in or call on the telephone, and it isn’t that I don’t
want the BFT ministry within our walls, I do.
But, it is at such times that I
must remind myself that “my times are in God’s hands.”--not mine
(Psalm 31:15), even when I can do the wash! It isn’t just the
sicknesses, the deaths, or the betrayals that are in God’s hands, but it is
the little things, too, like broken-down cars, sudden snow storms, and
Internet problems.
DEATH IS LIKE LOSING AN ARM OR LEG
As I’m writing you, former PRESIDENT GERALD FORD’S many funerals and
memorial services are in progress.
Very impressive! I didn’t know the country loved him so much!
The first President Bush said concerning his friend, “History has a way
of matching men with the moment.” WE HAVE A WONDERFUL COUNTRY!
I am sorry for Betty Ford’s loss. They were married for over
fifty-eight years--as long as Dr. Waite & I. That is long enough to
know what “better & worse” and “sickness & health” mean. Really, such
long marriages make us understand the meaning of “one flesh,” for
there is a tremendous loss when the mate dies (or is unfaithful, for that
matter). It is like losing an arm or leg--perhaps worse. I am
not looking forward to the loss of my mate--but know it will be for either
my husband or me--unless Jesus comes. Wouldn’t that be
wonderful to be two of the ones caught up together with Jesus in the clouds?
I wouldn’t mind. Christian, are you ready for such an
unexpected departure?
TEARS CAME DOWN HIS CHEEKS
I remember my father sitting in his wheel chair by my mother’s desk after
she had “gone.” He was
reading her writings and poetry. Unpreventable and unashamed tears
came down his cheeks. He had not paid too much attention to Gertrude
Sanborn’s poetry or her thoughts on paper when she was living (you know how
husband’s are at times); but in her death, they were all he had of her--and
the memories. Well, he had me and my brain-damaged sister, as well as
my husband and his grandchildren--but you know what I mean. Daddy died
eight weeks later. He was 84. What a shock! I was at a
Dean Burgon Society meeting in Kentucky. Our youngest son, Daniel
Waite, Dr. Waite’s present assistant, called me with the news. I could
hardly believe it, for Mother had just died a few weeks earlier.
I waited for my husband to finish speaking before passing him my note,
“My father has died.”
MY PARENTS ARE TOGETHER IN THAT BEAUTIFUL
PLACE
So, my parents are together with Jesus in that beautiful Heaven prepared for
all those who have trusted in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
That’s a wonderful hope for me as their daughter. The straw hat he was
wearing fell to the ground as he passed to the “Better Land.” It
hangs at my back door today. I don’t suppose anyone in the house
remembers. I do. It’s just a hat--but it has memories for
me.
It was Daddy’s hat.
DID PRESIDENT FORD “DESERVE” TO GO TO
HEAVEN?
Getting back to President Ford:
I really don’t remember too much about his brief administration.
They say he was the “accidental” president “propelled into the presidency”
by the resignation of Richard Nixon. Our current President Bush said
“He brought grace to the moment of great doubt.” They are saying he
was a “healer.” I guess history is writing him so. Was twice the
object of assassins. God spared his life to reach ninety-three.
He was appointed--not elected--played golf and pardoned Nixon.
He moved out to California where the rich people live, played more golf, and
attended the episcopal church every Sunday. (I keep wondering if it is
that part of the Episcopal Church that has gone apostate.)
According to the presiding minister, Ford showed concerns over
the homosexual issues splitting his denomination, not being in favor of such
church schisms. Everyone was supposed to get along in spite of
doctrine. Prior to the Washington D.C. memorial service, I heard his
pastor say that if anyone deserved to go to Heaven, Gerald
Ford did. Now that is not a direct quote but the gist. I beg to
differ! No one deserves to go to Heaven. The Lord
Jesus Christ made Heaven’s door open for any who repents and genuinely “receives
Him” (John 1:12). Jesus made it possible for anyone who realizes
he or she is a sinner and truly trusts in Him to be forgiven.
Jesus took that sin in His body on the “Tree”(1 Peter 2:24).
Heaven is not something any of us deserves. It is a GIFT
for ONLY those who receive the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12)
individually and personally.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
“The wages of sin is death:
But the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23).
TRUSTING IN INFANT BAPTISM FOR SALVATION
I do not know about all Episcopalians, but an elderly woman, we met in an
airport, shocked us when she said she was trusting in her baby-baptism for
salvation. I couldn’t believe it.
We tried to tell her that she did not know what she was doing all those
years ago, as she was an infant in arms. At the time, she could not
make any decisions for anything at all. She could not possibly
reject or believe in the Lord Jesus Christ like the Philippian jailer did
before he was baptized (Acts 16:31). Nor could she be like the
Ethiopian Eunuch, out in the desert, who stated to soul-winner Philip
after he trusted Christ as his Saviour, “Here is water. What
hinders me from being baptized?” (Acts 8:36). Nor could our friend
be like the folk in Peter’s day who received the Word and were baptized in
Acts 2:41. When questioned, she kept responding that when she was a
baby in arms, her “sponsors” answered for her. How can that be?
The new birth is an individual “birth” just like our human births. No
one can be “born” for us! So--no one can be “born again” for us
either! It is a personal, individual “birth” also!
When Philip answered the Eunuch’s
baptismal requests, he declared to the adult Etheopian, “If thou
believest with all thine heart, thou mayest [be baptitzed].”
What was the new convert’s
response? He said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the
Son of God.” (Acts 8:37). He did not say, “My sponsor
believed for me when I was an infant.”
“KING OF SOUL” DIES
I just took a rest between paragraphs and turned on the television to
catch-up on the news. There
was JESSIE JACKSON preaching at JAMES BROWN’s funeral--I think it was in
Augusta, Georgia. He went on to tell us that there were crowds of folk
from all over the world who wanted to be a part of the service. I
turned it off because I wanted to sleep for a few minute. I guess
James Brown is the King of Soul or Rock or Rap. or something. Not
really sure. The other day, for a few minutes I watched his funeral
caravan parading through the street of Harlem over to some theater.
His golden coffin was pulled in a white cart by two magnificent white
horses. He went into the hospital for pneumonia and soon died of
congestive heart failure. Probably his heart condition brought
on the pneumonia. I wonder if he knew Jesus Christ as Saviour.
His works did not show it. I don’t know his heart.
What a contrast of coffin choice to what I read in a recent World
magazine (12/23/06) that BILLY & RUTH GRAHAM have ordered for themselves
prisoner-made plain wooden coffins.
THE HANGING OF SADDAM
Then. last night before I went to bed, word came that SADDAM HUSSEIN met his
Maker. Like Haman of old,
Saddam’s vile & deceptive works brought him to the dreaded gallows of death.
What a horrible hanging! I wonder what repercussions that
execution will bring. Can’t help but cringe at such a death.
But I am reminded that he had no pity on the hundreds and hundreds of souls
whom he cast out into Eternity without a second thought. Holding
the Koran in his hands, close to his heart, all those days before and after
his trial, could not save his life. In the long-run, his lifestyle
killed him. His own arrogance and pride brought him low.
Death is an enemy. It equalizes all men!
God says in Isaiah 40:15:
“Behold, all nations are as a drop of a
bucket,
and are counted as the small dust of the
balance. . .”
“Boast not
too much of mountains you will master
To dream
is well, but plodding
Brings us
faster
to where
we go.”

RADIO TAPES
AN ANSWER TO MICHAEL SPROUL’S BOOK
DR. WAITE ON RADIO
Dr. Waite just finished ten hours of radio tapes on his answer to DR.
MICHAEL D. SPROUL’S four- hundred-page book, God’s Word Preserved--A Defense of
Historic Separatist Definitions and Beliefs.
It is a huge book.
SPROUL is the pastor of Tri-City Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona and
chairman of the board of the International Baptist College there.
He is a successor of the late Dr. James Singleton. He writes on page
13, “I love my Old Scofield, King James Version. I preach out of it
every Sunday.” Then he proceeds to tear down the Bible he
says he loves. He says he is writing as a “concerned pastor
and prays that he is writing empowered by the Holy Spirit . . .”
My husband has spent many hours reading and answering this book.
I hope you get Dr. Waite’s audio
tapes for your edification.
Perhaps we can get them put on MP3's--if you show an interest.
ASK FOR “ANSWER TO MICHAEL SPROUL”
(BFT ##247-251 @ $15.00 + $5.00 S&H)
In listening to my husband, I’ve picked up that Pastor Sproul appears to
contradict himself as to what he actually believes concerning the Textus
Receptus and the KJB.
He seems to mis-represent what
people like my husband believe. He has discussions on what he says
Fundamentalist believe down through the years.
“JUST FOR WOMEN” RADIO PROGRAMS
While I’m talking about radio tapes, you might like to hear JUST FOR WOMEN’s latest programs. I’m
learning to use new equipment to make the broadcasts on CD’s. Be
sure you ask for a CD or an audio tape.
They are for a gift of $4.00 + $1.00
for S&H. ( I don’t know if
you’ve noticed, but we have not raised our price on our tapes or CD’s
for a long time. In fact, I almost want to say “never.”

ORDER BFTBC’S PREACHING
TAPES, VIDEOS, & CD’S TODAY
Pastor Waite preached on the Epistles of 1 & 2 Corinthians, and Galatians
during this past year. His assistant, Daniel Waite, preached from Joel.
In our Bible discussion studies,
our church gathered together around Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Romans,
& I Corinthians. I must say our Sunday 1:30 p.m. discussion
services in 1 Corinthians have been like theological seminary classes to me.
If you can’t attend in person, be sure to click on to the BROWN BAR
on the Internet
(www.BibleForToday.org) at
that time; or the following day click the YELLOW BAR and see that
teaching, of the previous Sunday a.m. and p.m. messages and previous
Thursday night in Ezekiel.
Our Services Can Now Be Seen and Heard by Delay.
Dan Waite has now made it possible for those people who attend their own
church in their area also to hear our services by a delay if they wish
to do so. It is from Sunday through Saturday. Here’s
how it works:
1. Go to www.BibleForToday.org.
which is our Website.
2. Go down about 10" from the top of
the Home Page.
3. Click on the YELLOW BAR
which says: “Videos of Last Sunday's and Thursday's

4. The first service is Sunday a.m.;
the second is Sunday p.m.; the third is Thursday p.m. Try it some
time.
EZEKIEL UNEARTHS “SECRET SIN”
The other Thursday night, the
discussion on the “Secret Sin” that God revealed to Ezekiel was amazing
(Ezekiel 8:6-12). In a
vision, Ezekiel was told to peek into a small hole in the temple wall.
When he did, he received the shock of his life! There before his
eyes were the ancient, respected leaders adoring wicked pictures painted on
their sacred walls. Those “beloved” men with prayer-censers in their
hands were blaspheming the name of the LORD as in holy, worship pretense.
They were sinning together in secret! They were not the first to do so
and they are not the last. It makes me sick!
THE LION HATH ROARED, WHO WILL NOT
FEAR?
(Conclusion)
A WEED ON YOUR TREE
Looking out my office window, I can see a vine-weed growing on the old
chestnut tree. Somehow,
the wind had blown one of the seeds of an unwanted vine from our
overgrown trellis up on a tree branch. Now the weed has taken hold!
If my husband does not cut it down, the whole tree will be taken over by
that greedy weed. How like sin in the life of a believer! It
comes gently with the wind of the day, and soon has taken over with a
hurricane of sadness. This is the insidious scheme of the Devil.
He does not roar until the Christian falls into his purloining paws.
THE DEVIL ATTACKS WHEN LEAST EXPECTED
The sad fact is that while we are “humbling ourselves” and “casting
our care” on Jesus, the lion is stalking us
(1 Peter 5:6-7).
While we are comforted by God the Father’s “care” for us, the
Devil is preparing to pounce. It’s insidious! It’s
secretive! It is an action that we don’t expect. Why?
Because we are contented and happy in trusting our God with our
“care.” While we are “humbling ourselves under His Mighty Hand,”
the “lion” is licking his chops in anticipation, waiting for a bite
of our flesh. While we are “underneath” the “everlasting
arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27) and trusting God with our every “care,”
this beast is lustfully “eyeing” us. He is waiting for the attack.
He is patient. He has all the time in the world to get us. In
the midst of all this “humbling” and our “casting” of our
“care” on God (1 Peter 5:6-7), the Evil One attacks. We did
not expect it. The roar from his huge mouth deafens our ears.
Too late to save us from his clutches! It is the roar of a conqueror
in victory. What an awful concept to be conquered by Satan!
Other Christians have been conquered by him--this monster. There have
been times when we’ve almost been eaten ourselves. We must continue in
our “vigilance” (1 Peter 5:8). Don’t let it happen to us. We
must “resist” (1 Peter 5:9)!
SUFFERING PRECEDES PERFECTION
Praise God that He is the God of ALL grace (1 Peter 5:10)!
He has called us unto his eternal
glory by Christ Jesus” (1 Peter 5:10). That is the “perfect”
call! We have the promise that after we “suffer,” we will
be perfect (complete) (1 Peter 5:10). How very incomplete we
are now--our illnesses, our disappointments, our sorrows, our hurts make us
so imperfect. Yes, we understand the “suffer” part, but what
about the perfection--the completeness? We are so
incomplete, so imperfect, so lacking in true yieldness to the Lord Jesus
Christ. It is not unusual for us to “kick against the pricks”
(Acts 9:5).
RESISTING STRENGTHENS
Then we see that we’ll be “stablished” (1 Peter 5:10).
This means “made stable,
firm, strengthened, settled.” Oh, how unsettled we are at times
We have upsets, “reproaches,” and “persecutions” (2
Corinthians 12:10). Our good has been “evil spoken of”
(Romans 14:16). How can that “settle” us? How can
Satan’s growling in our face “strengthen” us? How
can all this emotional flack make us stable? How can our hurts make us
firm? Is it possible that
resisting the Devil is one of the building blocks for the perfection and
establishment of a mature Christian??
It is true when people do physical exercise, they are stronger.
When an athlete does “resisting” exercises, the very act of doing so
“strengthens” his muscles. If he stops his “resisting”
training, he will succumb to weakness and fail in his athletic goals.
Can this be true in the Christian’s spiritual race? My answer is,
“Yes!” Now I am beginning to understand this passage of Scripture.
Resisting brings strength!
“Resisting” the EVIL ONE is a life-long job of alertness and caution.
Once we begin to let up on such resistance, we will fail in the fight of
Faith (1 Timothy 6:12). That “lion” is watching our every move.
Beware! “He that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall
(1 Corinthians 10:12). The Devil is a master trap-setter.
GOD’S PROMISES RESULTS
GOD HAS PROMISED THAT AFTER WE HAVE SUFFERED, WE WILL BE PERFECT AND
STABLISHED (ESTABLISHED).
I don’t really know how it works, but God works this “together”
(Romans 8:28) in our lives; and, as we age and live through these emotional
and physical trials, we find that we are “stablished.” Then we
are able to give God the glory, recognizing His sovereign power and hand in
our lives. But never should we sit back on our laurels and think
we have won over this sneaky, crafty, stalking “lion.”
He is always
“seeking whom he may devour” (1
Peter 5:8).
BEWARE THAT HE OR SHE WHO THINKETH HE
STANDETH
TAKE HEED LEST HE OR SHE FALL (1
Corinthians 10:12).
“Swear not
someday to break some habit’s fetter
When this
old year is dead and passed away;
If you
have need of living wiser, better,
Begin
today!”

“I APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT TO COMPILE THIS
INFORMATION AND TO SHARE YOUR VIEWS WITH OTHERS LIKE MYSELF WHO ARE
SEARCHING FOR RESOLUTION TO THE MODERN BIBLICAL TEXTUAL CRITICISM PROBLEMS.
PLEASE CONTINUE THE EFFORTS EVEN THOUGH, I‘M SURE THAT IT SEEMS TO YOU THAT
YOU ARE SWIMMING UPSTREAM. THOSE OF US WHO ARE NOT SCHOLARS DEPEND ON OTHER
CHRISTIANS LIKE YOURSELVES, TO GIVE US DEPENDABLE INFORMATION IN ORDER TO
MAKE GOOD DECISIONS. . . .THE OPEN LETTER TO BOB JONES UNIVERSITY WAS MOST
FORTHRIGHT . . . MY HAT’S OFF TO BOTH OF YOU . . . AND ALL THE OTHERS AT
