THESE ARE PERILOUS TIMES!
CHRISTIANS MUST BE VIGILANT
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our
Lord, nor of me his prisoner; But be thou partaker of the afflictions of
the gospel according to the power of God.
2 TIMOTHY 1:8
24-HOUR STREAMING: www.BFTBC.ORG
Dear friend of the BFT,
WHERE WERE WE WHEN THE NJ NEWS BROKE?
IT’S RAINING! But that isn’t unusual. Never saw
so much wet stuff in a New Jersey summer. Lumberton, a town near us, was
flooded, as well as Medford. You probably saw our flood pictures on the
television news. And it’s been unusually cool, too. But whose complaining
about that? Must say that yesterday’s heat made up for it. It was
oppressively hot!
Yes, NEW JERSEY has made the news! Our GOVERNOR Mc GREEVEY has
come out!" He says he is "gay." The governor said his recent partner was
GOLAN CIPEL. The Governor met him in Israel. He made him his well-paid
aide. Guess what? McGreevey appointed him his security advisor for our
State! That wasn’t Cipel’s expertise! He couldn’t do the job. Cipel claims
that he’s a victim of the governor’s repeated sexual advances. I don’t
know if he were or not. Oozing behind and around these sensational
headlines is political corruption--big time! According to last night’s
paper, DINA MATOS McGREEVEY is in utter shock! She’s McGreevy’s present
wife. His first wife lives in British Columbia with his first daughter,
MORAG. (Don’t ask me how to pronounce that one!) No wonder judgmental
rains are falling in New Jersey!
Christian Lake Bible Conference
Stratford, New York
AUGUST 9-13
Since MR. DON WEBB and his side-kick JAMES, and the
camp’s board of directors, bought the old cabin on the edge of Christian
Lake, I’ve enjoyed my days at the conference. It is a small
cabin--just right for Dr. Waite and me to relax in between his speaking
twice a day at the tabernacle down the road. We set up a work area on the
enclosed back porch. Looking out the picture windows at the green trees
and white clouds, reflected in the water, was most relaxing. My husband
was working on his Romans book. It is half completed (Romans 1-8
finished). That doesn’t count proof-reading and correcting. It’s a long
book compared to the other Bible-teaching books he has written. Really
enjoyed the rest and quiet out in the country. Also, we enjoyed the
"drop-in" visits by friends such as PASTOR & MRS. PAGANO, Don Webb and
James, and especially MARK RENO & GAITER JONES. Mark and Gaiter brought
food and cooked hamburgers! (Of course, I could have done without the
nightly mice guests--but you can’t have everything!)
Misinformation On Bible Versions
Mr. Webb had requested that my husband continue his
defense of the King James Bible and its underlying texts this year.
Dr. Waite had taught the first series in 2003, if you remember, (BFT
#3151/1-3 @ $9.00 + $4.00 S&H). This year, Dr. Waite spoke on "WHAT
FUNDAMENTALISTS THINK OF BIBLE PRESERVATION." (BFT #3204/1-3
@ $9.00 + $4.00 S&H) My husband reviewed for us the positions of the
writers of The Mind of God to the Mind of Man book using his
own answer FUNDAMENTALIST
MISINFORMATION ON BIBLE VERSIONS (BFT #2974 @
$7.00 + 4.00 S&H). He also answered, in part,
the fairly new book written by the pro-critical texts men called GOD’S
WORD IN OUR HANDS--The Bible Preserved For us. (This is a sequel to
the Mind book.) I wish that
you would order Dr. Waite’s complete answer to that book. He did this on
the radio. Ask for RADIO TAPES BFT #216-219 @ $12.00 + $4.00 S&H).
He says the authors say by their title (God’s Word in Our Hands)
that God’s Word is in our hands; but when you read the book, they say they
can’t find it. They say that the "Word" of God is only God’s "message" or
his "ideas"--not God’s exact "Words." It is a very insidious
teaching. Yet, it comes from the heart of fundamentalist colleges and
seminaries like Bob Jones University, Detroit Seminary, Central Seminary,
and Calvary Seminary in Lansdale, Pa. Eventually, my husband wants to
write an answer to that book, too. He has his first draft finished.
A Prayer Room Dedicated to
Ellie Webb
Before I cease my reminiscing about CHRISTIAN LAKE BIBLE CONFERENCE,
let me tell you about THE PRAYER ROOM. It is like a "hut." It’s a tiny
building--a small carpeted one-room, eight-sided structure with petite
built-in benches, a desk, one chair, and a Defined King James Bible
from our ministry (BFT #3000L @ $40.00 + $7.50 S&H; #3000M @ $35 +
$6.00 S&H). It is dedicated to the memory of Ellie Webb, the
director’s wife who went Home to be "with the Lord" a few years ago. The
outside resembles a rounded wooden hut, beautifully constructed with a
metal steeple pointing to the sky.
A Holy Site
The first time I entered that "holy"
site, I felt a calm and peace. Let me explain to you what I mean by
"holy." (I think it is what God means also.) The way I understand it,
"holy" means separated unto God, or separated for a specific godly
purpose. The little prayer place I’m talking about, was "separated" unto
God for a specific purpose--for prayer.
As I walked through its door, I felt a hush. I was alone. There was
silence. I was shut in---away from people and problems. I was "shut-in"
with the Lord. I could think about His "still small voice." Now I know
that God is present, everywhere present (omniscient), but the smallness,
the quietness--the room’s emptiness of earthly possessions and pressures
brought Him closer to my senses, to my spirit and soul. Yes, God is
everywhere! And, if we know Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour, He is in
us! Yet, sometimes life is so cluttered, so full of things, and people,
pain, places, and disappointments, as well as responsibilities, that we
don’t "feel" Him as close as our own breath. We don’t walk hand-in-hand
with Him. That closeness was part of what Adam and Eve gave up when they
succumbed to the Serpent in the Garden.
A Room Devoted to Prayer
Only once before in a Bible-believing church, had I ever been in a
"room" that was purposefully and wholly dedicated to prayer. That was
years ago in PASTOR PAUL RENO’s church in Hagerstown, Maryland. I suppose
that is where Mr. Webb got the idea for his prayer room there at the
conference. I don’t know for sure. Many churches have a "prayer room"
at the front of the church’s sanctuary to the left or to the right of the
platform. Often, it becomes cluttered with stuff, like a store room, or a
meeting room for committees to wrangle in, or storage of choir robes and
music, or for baptismal candidates to use as a dressing room. It isn’t
open for anyone to come in and pray. Perchance if a person would actually
make his way up front to pray, people would wonder what in the world is
that someone doing in the church anyhow? Perhaps the police would be
called!
How many churches or Christian ministries have a small or medium-sized
room just for personal prayer? Jesus had a prayer garden, didn’t He?
Or a prayer mountain? Life was so complicated for Him that He had to get
alone with His Father. I must confess, life is so busy, so cluttered, so
full of mundane things as well as spiritual duties, that we have no
room--apart from all--dedicated to prayer. I suppose, I, personally, make
the excuse that I should be praying "in season and out of season"
(instant in prayer), that I should always be in prayer and not faint, so
why would I need a special room for prayer; and, why would a church need
such a room, of all things--especially if it were a "purpose driven
church"?
Prayer on the Run
Yes, we must have prayer. There is nothing wrong with prayer
"on the run," so to speak--EMERGENCY PRAYER, "walking-on-the-water"
praying. What would we do without it? That’s what Disciple Peter did when
he took His eyes off the Lord Jesus Christ and began to sink in the sea.
He prayed! He had an emergency! Oh, for a place of quietness to which we
would actually flee! Don’t we need a place away from the prying eyes of
our critics and our families? I suppose the closest I have come to such a
spot is my bedroom. But it is so messy right now!--suitcases, papers,
books, clothes to be folded. I’ve had some wrestling matches with the
angels there upon occasion. Then, the car has been my prayer closet as I
speed down the highways of life. How often I’ve cried to and from the
hospitals begging God to heal! How often I’ve screamed to God when
distressed with personal cares, caring not what other drivers thought of
me! How often have I prayed with my husband for our children as we would
drive to a preaching assignment! How often has my heart been broken when
no words would come! Yes, God can read our hearts. This should not only
comfort us, but it should also frighten us!
A Quiet Chamber
What wouldn’t I give for a quiet chamber away from the eyes and ears
of others--and the telephone! But then, if I actually had such a
"holy" site, would I use it?
One afternoon, I said to my husband, "Let’s take a
walk!" We did that several times while at Christian Lake this year. As
we neared the Prayer Room, I said, "Let’s go in there. It is so quiet
and peaceful." And it was. We prayed. Often when I pray with my
husband, I ramble to God. I tell Him my feelings. I pray for our children,
for Dr. Waite, for others, or just tell God that I am tired. It was good
to be in that little room together with the man I married fifty-six years
ago. Then, the rains came--the refreshing rains! The blessing of rain,
washing the world about us. We had no umbrella. A van came by and gave us
a ride back to the speaker’s cabin.
My mother, Gertrude Sanborn, expressed her need for quietness
in prayer when she wrote the following poem:
Above The Din
Above the din and noise and strife,
Above the cares of my own life;
O Lord, I come to Thee and pray;
Now teach me, Lord, just what to say.
For self I cry, "I need Thy touch!"
For I do murmur ever much;
For others dear, I yearn and plead
That Thou wilt grant their every need.
My Lord, I long to come to Thee
So free and oft that I may be
In reverent attitude all day
To lift my heart and learn to pray.

DEAN BURGON SOCIETY’S 26TH YEAR
Heritage Baptist University
Greenwood, Indiana
JULY 14-15, 2004
This year the Dean Burgon Society had the sweetest
spirit--not that all the meetings aren’t good; but, this year, everything
seemed dear to me. Others said so, too.
IT WAS OUR TWENTY-SIXTH YEAR! I think this was
partially true, if not completely, because our host, PRESIDENT RUSSELL
DENNIS, JR. was most cordial, open, and friendly. He and his wife had my
husband and me, and a few others, over to their house prior to the first
session. What a lovely way to get acquainted!
Fundamentalist Deception on Bible Preservation
My husband spoke on "FUNDAMENTALIST
DECEPTION ON BIBLE PRESERVATION" (BFT #3204/1-3 @
$9.00 + $4.00 S&H). HE IS EXCELLENT! Of course,
I am biased. I just listened to him as I passed the office where the DBS
videos are being reproduced. You must get the entire series of twenty-one
speakers! ASK FOR DBS-2004 SERIES. We have it on videos (BFT
#3200VC1-3 @ $35.00 + $5.00 S&H), or DVD (BFT 3200DV1-3 @ $35.00 +
$5.00 S&H), as well as audio cassette (BFT #3200/1-8 @ $24.00 +
$5.00 S&H). You can hear these tapes in your car. I am not sure if we
will have them on CD’s or not. (We have a very small staff.--if we had
more contributions to the BFT, we could have more staff!)
The Lie That Changed The Modern World
For the first time in the history of the Society, we
are having a full-time man on the road. His name is H. D. WILLIAMS, M.D.
He is a retired medical doctor out of Georgia. I think you would enjoy
having him speak in your church. Call him at 706-219-2153.
His topic at DBS was "The Attack on the Cannon of Scripture"
(BFT #3200/3 @ $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). Perhaps you have read his recently
published BOOK: THE LIE THAT CHANGED THE MODERN WORLD (BFT
#3125 @ $16.00 + $5.00 S&H). It’s a 440-page hard-backed book packed
full of good facts concerning the Bible Version debate.
I was especially interested in the message by PASTOR MARC MONTE of
Indiana, FUNDAMENTALIST BIBLE BETRAYAL BFT #3200/7 @ $4.00 + $2.00
S&H).
"Dr, Waite, You Make Us Feel Safe!"
Prior to his message, Pastor Monte told how much he and his brother
looked forward to receiving THE DEAN BURGON NEWS when he was a student at
a popular fundamental University in South Carolina. They looked forward to
whatever Dr. Waite wrote in those days. They needed to have their faith in
the integrity of the KING JAMES BIBLE buttressed and enforced. After
saying what the DBS NEWS and Dr. Waite’s work meant to him as a young
student, who stood fairly alone for the RECEIVED TEXTS, Pastor Monte
looked at my husband and said, "Dr. Waite, you made us feel safe!"
The Influence Of One Man For the Wrong Text
I can’t tell you how those words warmed my heart. I appreciated Pastor
Monte’s thanking my husband! I know all the
hours and hours my husband puts into this Bible battle. I know how he has
stood alone for years against the forces of fundamentalists who have been
influenced by S. P. TREGELLES’s bringing the Westcott/Hort Greek Texts
into "born-again" Christian colleges, universities, and seminaries. They
swallowed it hook, line, and sinker when B. B. WARFIELD of Princeton
Seminary (taught by W/H) regurgitated their Greek teachings. So did C. I.
SCOFIELD accept it, for that matter--along with notables like JAMES GRAY,
WILLIAM R. NEWELL, HARRY IRONSIDE, and BOB JONES, SR. These men never did
any manuscript digging themselves, you know. They just accepted the new
theories!
A NEW BOOKLET BY JACK MOORMAN
DID YOU KNOW THAT ETHELBERT BULLINGER, the head of the Trinitarian
Bible Society for forty-six years, nearly succumbed to his friend
Tregelles’s Greek text? I learned all of this
when I read MISSIONARY JACK MOORMAN’S twelve-page booklet called
SAMUEL P. TREGELLES--The Man Who Made the Critical Text Acceptable to
Bible Believers. (BFT # 3195 @ $2.00
+ $1.00 S&H). The Bible For Today, Inc. put Dr. Moorman’s work
into print as soon as Dr. Waite received it. It is a vital booklet! It may
be the most important booklet on this subject published in a long time!
Why? Because it points the finger on why BOB JONES UNIVERSITY, DALLAS
THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, and all the other schools that have followed suit
are in the wrong Greek Text camp!
WHO WAS S. P. TREGELLES?
Did you know that this S. P. Tregelles was a Bible-believer? He
was led to the Lord by a Plymouth Brethren Bible teacher named NEWTON.
Tregelles studied Hebrew and Greek on his own, became a student of
manuscripts on a par (or better) with Griesbach, Lachmann, Tischendorf,
Winer, Alford, and Westcott and Hort. They lived at the same time when the
King James Version was changed by the W/H Greek text--thus: THE ENGLISH
REVISED VERSION of 1881. Can you believe it? It was a Bible-believer
that indoctrinated the fundamentalist world with the wrong text!
Why Scholars Forsook The Textus Receptus
"JUST FOR WOMEN" #54 RADIO PROGRAM
I did a complete radio program on the subject. (Must confess, I
got mixed up on the dates in a chart my husband handed me--otherwise all
is correct!) That program was aired on short wave and a couple other
stations. Ask for radio tape "WHY SCHOLARS FORSOOK THE TEXTUS RECEPTUS"
(JFW/54 @ $4.00 +$2.00 S&H).
Did you know that Dr. Waite was a father of five children before he
realized he’d been hood-winked at DALLAS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY? He
learned koine Greek there. That’s when he was handed the actual Westcott &
Hort Greek New Testament Text from which to read. He did not know of any
other Greek Text until over 20 years later when Sandy, a woman student of
his, asked, "Dr Waite, have you ever read REVISION REVISED by
John Burgon?"(BFT #611 @ $25.00 + $5.00 S&H) By the way, have
you ever read that book yourself?
Dr. Hollowood Home With The Lord
Dr. M. J. Hollowood, long-time pastor,
Bible teacher, college professor, husband, father, grandfather, and friend
left this life of woe for that bliss up yonder. It was a joyous departure
for him, for he had been ill for many months; yet we who enjoyed his
presence will miss him. His funeral was on July 28, 2004, in a beautiful
chapel near their home. Friends and family from far and near were present.
Earlier in the month, while at the Dean Burgon Society meetings in
Greenwood in July, his son Rev. David Hollowood (DBS Exec. Com.) of New
Holland, Pennsylvania, paid a living tribute to his father. We all knew
that Dr. Hollowood’s days were numbered. (Aren’t all of our days numbered?
Some have not the warning that Dr. Hollowood had. Some go unexpectedly.)
We were challenged, as well as blessed, hearing such words! (BFT #3200/4 @
$4.00 + $2.00 S&H)
Later when the actual memorial service was held on July 28th, Dr. Waite
(DBS Pres.) & I, as well as BROTHER (DBS Exec. Com.) & SISTER PAUL RENO
from Hagerstown, Md., DAN (DBS Treasurer) & TAMARA WAITE from
Collingswood, NJ, and the Dean Burgon Society’s newly elected
vice-president and missionary/representative, DR. & MRS. H. D. WILLIAMS
attended. The Williams drove all the way from Georgia.
Our presence was our silent tribute to our friend
Dr. Hollowood was one of the founding members of the DBS, and the vice
president all these years. Dr. Thomas Strouse, also a DBS executive member
and dean of Emmanuel Baptist Seminary in Newington, CT was asked to give a
tribute to his teacher. Dr. Strouse mentioned, that years ago, Dr.
Hollowood taught him the defense of the King James Bible and its
underlying Greek and Hebrew texts from Dr. Waite’s syllabus on the
subject. I was personally glad to hear that--more fruit from all the labor
that my husband had done all these years.
How important it is to put our
thoughts into written form. Without the words, we would not preserve what
anybody really was saying. That is true of the Bible also. Without the
Words of God preserved, we would not know what God had said. My husband
teaches this all the time!
Dr. Waite at Grace Baptist Church
MIAMI, FLORIDA/ JUNE 12-15, 2004
For many months, I was hoping that we would be
invited to a certain wedding in the Midwest. I
thought it would be a great opportunity to be with "family." Secretly I
was glad that June was not filling up with speaking engagements for us. I
kept saying to my husband, "Be sure to save early June in case we get
invited." So when the phone rang and the invitation came for Dr. Waite
to have a Bible conference in Miami in early June, I knew that I would not
be able to persuade him to take two long trips in one month "if."
WELL, NO "IF" CAME!! So it was a good thing my husband accepted PASTOR CHESTER MULLIGANS’s
invitation! And guess what? I got to speak, too. Besides that, we had
a wonderful time at GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH. Just think: if we had not
consented to fly down there and waited around for what wasn’t to be, we
would have been home in Collingswood with no place to go and missed the
opportunity to serve the Lord, as well as meet some wonderful people. I
learned a lesson: Accept what is put before you
and don’t regret what doesn’t come your way. What a joy to be with PASTOR & MRS. CHESTER MULLIGAN at Grace Baptist
Church on 19301 S.W. 127th Avenue, in Miami, Florida 33177. Yes, the
pastor’s wife was beautiful in two ways--in appearance and in action--a
lovely lady. If I remember correctly, they had four children--three boys
and a daughter. The two older teenage sons sang duets at church. I was
impressed with their deportment.
A GO-GETTER PASTOR
Pastor Mulligan is new as a pastor at Grace Baptist. HE IS A
GO-GETTER! In the brief few months that he has been at GRACE, he’s
made many improvements. The whole auditorium has had a face-lift, as well
as other areas of the church. Ever since HURRICANE ANDREW years ago,
nothing was done to improve the church building. Pastor Mulligan has a
vision! He has started a Spanish-speaking ministry with a competent
Spanish-speaking man at the helm under the senior pastor. Soon the
auditorium will be butted out, making room for those congregants the
Pastor expects to come their way. He has landscaping plans for the lawn.
It will be a show-place for Christians to meet. As of a few weeks ago, he
was encouraged by my husband to do verse- by-verse studies in the Bible.
After ordering some Greek tools, Pastor Mulligan has begun to teach the
book of Philippians. It is a new experience for him to teach
systematically through a Bible book. I know it will bless his people.
A KING JAMES CHURCH THAT DEFENDS IT’S POSITION
He told us that his church is the only English-speaking church in
the Miami area that not only uses the King James Bible but defends it.
Because he wanted his people to have a good foundation as to WHY they used
the King James, he invited my husband to be the first special speaker for
his first Bible conference. It was a privilege for my husband to do so.
You’ll have to order the videos. Ask for THE MIAMI MEETINGS/2004: ( BFT
#3208/1-3 @ $9.00 + $4.00 S&H). We were pleased with the BOOK TABLE
response! People took the DEFINED KING JAMES BIBLES, too. By the
way, if you can only get one book on the Bible defense subject, do get
DEFENDING THE KING JAMES BIBLE by Dr. Waite. It is the primer
of books on the subject! Ask for BFT #1594-P @ $12.00 + $4.00 S & H)
Mrs. Waite Spoke on Sarah, the Example Wife
I was happy to speak to the women of the church at a supper the
first night we were in town--that was Saturday. Because I’d been talking
about Sarah on my radio program, I continued in that same vein. I call the
tape THE CELL PHONE CONTROVERSY (BFT #3209 @ $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). It
really is about SARAH, THE EXAMPLE WIFE from I Peter 3:6 but I call
it The Cell Phone Controversy to peek your interest. I tell of an
argument that I had the night before with my husband about my cell phone.
His battery didn’t work and so he took the battery out of mine. For the
life of me, I can’t remember the details at this writing--something about
a battery clip. Can’t recall. There are a few other humorous things in
that talk. I told about unplugging the child-listening device in our
bedroom. We were staying in the children’s playroom of our hosts. Come to
find out the thing I unplugged was also a small television camera. There
was much laughter over that. All these modern conveniences parents have
now to spy on their children.
It Was Good To Be In Miami Again
It was interesting to be in Miami again.
Years ago, when my husband was a Navy chaplain, we lived in Opa Locka,
Florida--a section of Miami. I understand that it had changed very much
since those 1956 years. That was the year our only daughter was born.
We’ve only been back there once. That was over thirty years ago when we
were hijacked to Cuba. After finally returning to the United States, our
plane landed at the Miami airport. How good to be in the USA again! We
rented a station wagon and took the opportunity to look around our old
neighborhood. My how it had changed! It must be worse now. Our daughter
was born in St Francis Hospital on Miami Beach. The Navy duty doctor
didn’t get there on time! She was born in the labor room ! That was about
eight or ten months before my husband went overseas for a year with the
Marines. The Navy chaplains served both the Navy and the Marines in those
days. It is the same today.
TWO LITTLE BOYS
Getting back to June of 2004! We stayed with a
special couple--BILL & NERCEY RADCLIFF. They had two little blonde boys
and another on the way--CHRISTOPHER & KEVIN. Their home was absolutely
beautiful!--large, spacious rooms, a full kitchen, beautiful grass, and a
front yard with blowing palm trees. I was impressed every time the button
was pushed to drive through the locked iron gate on to the circular
driveway up to the front door. We did that often--because we went to
church every night to hear my husband teach the defense of the King James
Bible at Grace Baptist.
A BILINGUAL HOME
Mrs. Radcliff was a beautiful & gracious young woman. (Most
everyone is young to me now, but not everyone is gracious.) Her parents
came from Cuba years ago. Her father was an educated lawyer there;
but, coming to the United States, he had to clean bathrooms and do lowly
tasks for a living at first. Then he became a builder, retired, then went
into the jewelry business with his wife. Nercy is bilingual and wants
her children to speak both Spanish and English. So we were doing much
Spanish-speaking that week. My husband is fluent in Spanish, but I’d
forgotten most--but it was coming back. Before her children were born, our
hostess was a successful business woman with a well-known cosmetic
company. She jetted all over, instructing salespeople how to use and sell
the new products.
A STAY-AT-HOME MOM
After a few years, as a new mother, she saw the need to stay home
with her children and be what God wanted her to be--a full time wife and
mother. Her dedication to God’s will showed in her daily interchange
with her husband, her children, and us. Personally, I thought she was
doing too much--making meals, not only for us but for the Pastor, his
wife, and other guests; to say nothing of the nightly mango shakes she
whipped up for us with her blending machine. They had a mango tree in
their yard.
King James Bible Ohio Roots
Bill Radcliff was from Ohio--I think from the Zanesville area--but
I’ve really forgotten. He not only is a senior mechanic at American
Airlines, but also he owns some apartments and houses which he rents to
others. He’s no absentee landlord. He sees his renters every month to be
sure things are going right in the neighborhood. It is his construction
crew that has been working on the renovation of Pastor Mulligan’s church.
Maybe you don’t remember, but Dr. Waite and I are from Ohio, too. We
graduated from Berea High school almost sixty years ago. Can it be that
long ago? Anyhow, it was in Ohio that our host was taught not only the
beauty of the King James Bible but the authority of it. For years the
Radcliffs could not find a church that used the King James Bible, so they
had church in their home. When they moved to their present house, they
searched and found GRACE BAPTIST, and travel more than most to attend that
fellowship. Like we say here at BIBLE FOR TODAY BAPTIST CHURCH: The
Difference is Worth the Distance!
My Cousin Jim Came to Visit
One of the rewarding events in our
Florida trip was the visit from my cousin JIM SANBORN. I had not seen him
since he was a small boy--perhaps he was eight or ten. That was over
fifty-five years ago. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to see him. Our paths
never crossed. When I knew that we’d be in Miami, I wrote him, hoping he’d
want to see me, too. He drove over to the Radcliff home from his place in
Ft. Lauderdale. Because he did that, I knew he wanted to see me, too.
There were only six first cousins in our immediate family. There’s Jim and
his brother, Stanton, and our oldest cousin Vernon, Jr., and I. Both of my
sisters have died. So there are only four of us left.
My Uncle’s Younger Son
Jim is my Uncle Clayton’s younger son. It was so good to
see him. I hugged him. He was family. He reminded me of his father. Saw
his mother in his face, too. We ate at a near-by Cuban restaurant. The
food was good. The talking loud. Our voices added to the sound. We talked
of our parents. We remembered our grandparents, We took pictures. We
looked at old pictures. I’d brought my mother’s old photograph book with
snap shots starting from 1923. Jim saw his father when he was sixteen. I
don’t know if he’d ever seen him that young before. There were a few
pictures of Jim as a toddler with our whole Sanborn clan. Pictures of me,
too, as a little child. There was so much to catch up on. I’m so glad he
came!
We Share the Same Heritage
My father, REN O. SANBORN, had two brothers and one sister. They were
the children of LORENZO O. SANBORN AND FLORENCE VERN VAN TASSELL SANBORN.
My Dad’s oldest brother was VERNON J. SANBORN. Then there was the second
born, my father. Next was FLORENCE A., and lastly CLAYTON V. SANBORN.
Jim’s mother was LUCILLE, a lovely lady from Jamestown, Ohio. She was a
twin. She died a few years ago. Aunt Florence had a sad life. She was ill
from her late teens or early twenties until she died at forty. She had an
unfaithful husband. He forsook her. He didn’t want a sick wife. Uncle
Vernon had been married briefly to Vernon, Jr.’s mother. AUNT VIOLA was
Uncle Vernon’s wife as long as I could remember. I have many happy
memories of her. She died in April of this year (2004) at age 102, missing
her 103rd birthday by a few months. All these people, whom I love, are not
with us anymore but they professed faith in Jesus Christ, and I expect to
meet them in Heaven some day.
One time I wrote about some of my family who were buried in Collins,
Ohio. Their name was FAIRBANKS.
A woman named
BARBARA LELAND was looking up her genealogy . She got on her computer and
found that name of Fairbanks in one of my BFT UPDATES on our Web page. She
contacted me. We found out that we share the same great grandfather. That
would be my father’s GRANDFATHER ORLEY R. SANBORN. Now I know where my
father and grandfather got their middle name!
Dr. Waite Was in Allentown, Pa
Race Street Baptist Church--June 27th
Every once in a while PASTOR GARY FREEMAN
calls Dr. Waite. "Will you preach for me on such & such Sunday
evening." June 27th was one of those invitations. Pastor Freeman
was going to be in Hong Kong on business. So we drove over to the RACE
STREET BAPTIST CHURCH in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania. By now, we’re learning
how to get there. We enjoy it there. We are getting to know the people.
His son is the pianist and his daughter, home from college, was at the
organ. My husband spoke from 2 TIMOTHY 4:1-8 on PAUL’S LAST VITAL
WORDS. Why not order the tape and listen to that sermon in your
car. (BFT #3192 @ $4.00 + $2.00 S&H)
Rebecca
Lynn Waite is Off For College
Where did that little five-pound baby go? Her name was Rebecca. We
often call her Becka. Eighteen years ago, when I first saw my newly born
granddaughter, I wondered how any baby so tiny could grow up to be a
regular person. Well, a regular person she is! Becka graduated from
HOMESCHOOL June (2004). She and her co-graduates wore cap and gown. Their
colors were royal blue and gold. Grandpa Waite and I were there! So were
her other grandparents--and her Uncles and Aunts, and cousins. She gave a
speech. She cried. It was uncharacteristic for her to do so. But all the
emotions of her years swelled into her heart and came out her eyes in
thanksgiving tears. Now my "babe in the woods" whom I used to rock and
sing to, will be flying off to college. We are proud of her. She is so
lovely, bright, and friendly. I know the Lord has something special for
her to do. I’ll keep you posted.

THANKS FOR HELPING
THE BFT MINISTRIES
WE ALWAYS HAVE A FINANCIAL NEED
OUR BIBLE FOR TODAY MINISTRIES ALWAYS
NEEDS FUNDS TO PAY OUR STAFF AND PRINT BOOKS, ETC. That is why we
appreciate you so much for you have contributed to our work. Thank you.
Another reason is a good book table response means the people are
interested in the subject. Several people
purchased THE DEFINED KING JAMES BIBLE
while there. Do you have a copy? (BFT #3000 @
$40.00 LARGE LEATHER; $35.00 MEDIUM LEATHER; $20 LARGE HARDBACK; $15
MEDIUM HARDBACK + $6.00 S&H each). WE ARE
EXPECTING ANOTHER SHIPMENT OF MEDIUM LEATHER and HARDBACK DEFINED KING
JAMES BIBLES IN MAY.
THE "DOCTORED" NEW TESTAMENT
If you have not seen THE
"DOCTORED" NEW TESTAMENT, you’ve really missed an excellent work which
was researched and written by our oldest son, who authored the DEFINED
KING JAMES BIBLE footnotes. You’ve heard of
Scriveners’ Annotated Greek New Testament (BFT #1670 @ $35.00
Hardback; $45.00 Leather + $4.00 S&H) with the footnotes from the
actual WESTCOTT/HORT Greek text. D. A. Waite, Jr. has put the English
Bible where the Greek was and he has transcribed the footnotes showing us
how and when and where the critical text changes the
Greek Words. I like to take this New Testament to church with me and see
how the Doctors Westcott and Hort changed things. I like to do my daily
devotions with this new work to help me understand what a good Bible is
our Authorized Version. ASK FOR The DOCTORED New Testament (#BFT3138
@ $25.00 + $4.00 S&H.)
"But this New Testament was
‘doctored’ in another, more significant way. Previous revisions of the
traditional English New Testament primarily focused on improving the
English text and not on changing its Greek Basis. But with the 1881
English Revised Version,
a new wind began to blow. Doctors Westcott and Hort (together with the
majority of the Revisions
Committee) made thousands of New Testament changes based on their new
Greek Testament. This new Greek Testament had been significantly
‘doctored’ with thousands of ‘various readings’ from their two
favorite Greek manuscripts --Codex Vaticanus
(B) and Codex Sinaiticus (Aleph)."
(page iii of the Preface).
An Interesting Footnote
It is interesting to
notice that the footnote at the bottom of page iii of the Preface to
THE DOCTORED NEW TESTAMENT reads: "These change were made over the
repeated objections of Dr. Scrivener."
THE SUBJECT OF "LYING" AGAIN
Now back to the subject of LYING that I talked about in my last BFT
UPDATE. I can’t tell you when I’ve had such response. Some asked me,
"Are you talking about me, Mrs. Waite?" Some
wrote letters, and others said, "I better do what I said I would do or
Mrs. Waite will say I am lying!" It has made me examine my own words
and life also. How about you? Then nationally, we have had MARTHA STEWART
found guilty of lying. In nearby Philadelphia, a mother discovered her
missing child after five or six years. Come to find out, a relative had
stolen the little girl as a new-born child, then set the row-house on fire
to cover up her crime. The firemen said the child had perished in the
flame. All of this was lies. I talk about the subject of LYING on the
tape of my radio program called "Lying & The ‘PASSION MOVIE’"
(JFW/49 @ $4.00 + S&H). WHY DID ABRAHAM & SARAH LIE TO ABIMELECH
(GENESIS 20)?
