THESE ARE PERILOUS TIMES!
CHRISTIANS MUST BE VIGILANT
Satan is out to destroy Christians and their families!
Let us not be too proud to HUMBLE OURSELVES
Under the Mighty Hand of God!
I Peter 5:6-11
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His
Son,
Made of a woman, made under the Law
To redeem them that were under the Law,
That we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:4-5
WHY DIDN' T MARY HAVE AN ABORTION?
YOU MAY THINK THIS A BLASPHEMOUS QUESTION
But the fact is that an unmarried woman found herself
pregnant. She was stunned! She was afraid! If true, she would be stoned.
She looked around to see if any people were watching. She wondered aloud,
almost as if she were talking to herself, "How shall this be . . .?"
She knew she had never been with a man in a married way. She was a
virgin. But who would believe her? Yet that bright Being standing before
her had frightened her with such news. He said, "Blessed art thou
among women." How could she, an ordinary Jewish girl accept such a "blessing" ? She knew herself, better than any other, what such news would
do to her reputation. She did not feel "blessed" ! It would be the end
of her life if the declaration were true. And, why wouldn't it be true?
A messenger from the Throne of God had delivered the news! Mary was going
to have a baby! What was going to happen to her? What would Joseph think?
What would her parents think? And what about Nazareth?
THE FRIGHT OF AN ANGEL
"And, behold Thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and
bring forth a son and shalt call His name Jesus." It was amazing enough
that an Angel would take the time to appear to her, but the message from
the Angel was overwhelming. No one in her young lifetime, nor the
lifetime of her parents or grandparents had seen an Angel. Who would
believe her? She was frightened beyond belief! The Angelic statement was
incomprehensible. "Why Me? Why would God find favor with me?" Mary knew
that she was just an ordinary girl with an ordinary life from an ordinary
village called Nazareth.
In her fear, Mary was sure she was not hearing aright.
Was she listening to words in her head like the mentally ill? Was she
hallucinating? Was the Angel a figment of her frightened imagination? Had
she lost her mind? Visualize her now blinking her eyes in disbelief,
shaking her head as to awaken from a dream, touching her forehead to gain
composure. Yet, Gabriel did not disappear. He was right there
motionless--right in front of her. He was real all right! He was standing
close by. His piercing eyes were looking right into hers. He was speaking
to her in comprehensible sentences, but his words made no sense to her at
all. She heard them. She could define each word clearly; but the message
was extremely difficult to realize. When he spoke with all the authority
of Heaven's portals, would and angel lie? No! "He shall be great,
and shall be called the Son of the Highest. . ."
THE FEAR OF THE HEART
Mary trembled in fright! Forgetting her manners, she
blurted out, "I know not a man!" Those truthful words,
"I
know not a man!" were the only response she could muster. Her hands were
shaking. Her pulse was rapid. Her face was burning. She was cold with
fright! This cannot be! It's physically impossible! If true, it
would be down-right embarrassing. To be accused of fornication was an
unspeakable doom! She pulled her veil closer to her face. She
dared not think of her future. What would her mother say? How angry would
her father be? And Nazareth? How would the townspeople react? She knew
their answer without asking the question. "Sin" !
Yet, the Angel continued, A .. . .and the Lord God
shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: and He shall reign
over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no
end." With all her being, her heart screamed. What was this? She would
conceive & carry a baby son in her womb? The seed of a man-child would be
placed within her virgin body. How? An impossibility! The Angel claimed
that the "power of the Highest" would "overshadow" her.
He said that the Holy Ghost would engender the child. Who had ever heard
of such a thing--a virgin being a mother? Perhaps, the thought crossed
her mind, "Could this child, the Angel is speaking about, be the
promised Messiah? Is it possible that I--a lowly peasant person--would
carry the Saviour of the world?" Her thoughts are not recorded in Holy
Writ, but we do know that "Mary kept all these things, and pondered
them in her heart" (Luke 2: 19)
THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE MESSAGE
It was true. The angel was proclaiming the method of
pregnancy to her. She heard it clearly with her very own ears. Perhaps at
that time, she remembered the words from the prophet Jeremiah?. "The
LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man."
(Jeremiah 31:22)
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,
And the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee;
Therefore also that Holy Thing which shall be born of
thee
Shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:35
In her dazed state of mind, did Mary recall the
prophecies from Isaiah that she had learned as a child: "Therefore
the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14)?
Could she? Would she be THAT virgin? Impossible! Yet, here before her was
the Angel delivering that very message. It was the same message--the
virgin being "with child" --that she, as a child herself, had
learned from the Holy Scriptures. The message was that a virgin would
bear THE DELIVERER of ISRAEL. Caught in the confusion of her
thoughts, she may have reasoned, "I am a virgin and this Bearer of
Tidings is an Angel. His message was the same as Isaiah's. Could this be
my life's duty? Am I chosen to be God's holy vessel?" Question after
question like a waterfall flooded Mary's mind. Some would never be
answered. It was a whirlwind of thought and a frightened future--a future
unknown to her and her "husband," Joseph. How could she tell him?
How will he react?
THE FASHION OF THE DAY
How would you, dear reader, have felt, if suddenly,
without warning, an angelic Being dropped down before you? To see an
angel would be supernatural enough; but the message he gave was
Omniscient--foreign to the ear, to say the least. But, then an angel
would not give an earthly message, would he? No wonder Gabriel's words to
the maiden were, "Fear not!" That little country girl, from
the hills west of the Sea of Galilee, was alarmed. No visitation like
this had ever been reported to anyone that she knew personally. Why her?
Who would have thought that such news would be delivered to some one from
a back-woods village far from the main roads of life's busy highways?
What would be the dilemma in the heart of a twenty-first
century, unmarried woman who discovered that an unwanted, unplanned
pregnancy was hers? Would she tearfully confess to her parents the
fornication that brought about such conception? Probably her parents
would rant and rave; but eventually calm down and accept their daughter's condition, love the unborn child, or seek out adoptive parents. Yet,
another young woman in such a predicament might be silent to all, telling
no one. She would sneak over to the nearest planned parenthood place,
have an abortion, and hope no one would discover the deed. Her parents wouldn't know; her friends would be ignorant to the situation, and the
father of the child may, or may not, ever know about the pregnancy--not
alone the abortion.
Mary, too, had to make some decisions. Mary was in a
predicament! Who would not believe that she and Joseph had been together?
Who? It was unnatural. And Joseph? He knew that they had not been
intimate. What would he say? Fear followed Mary day and night! It would
be her companion whether asleep or awake. In this confused state of mind,
do you think that she considered an abortion? Never! Though frightened
and confused, Mary yielded to the will of God in her life. She said to
the Angel, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me
according to thy word." With such acceptance of God's will in her life,
the Angel left as suddenly as he had appeared. Mary would not see an
angel again ever. Yet, in nine months, the shepherds tending the Passover
flocks would see many--but that is another story.
THE FINALIZATION OF THE SOUL
Before Gabriel left Mary, that historic day, he gave her
a word of comfort, as well as an affirmation of God's miracle power in
the womb of a woman. It was news of Mary's elder cousin, Elisabeth. She,
too, was "with child." In fact, the wife of Priest Zacharias
was six-months pregnant. To Mary and the family this was most unexpected
but delightful news, for the elderly couple had long forgotten their
dream of parenthood. Suddenly, the clan is learning that a baby will
bless their home. Another impossible situation! Listen to the parting
words of comfort and encouragement to Mary from the Heavenly Messenger, "For
with God NOTHING shall be impossible!" What better seal of
confirmation to the will of God to the Virgin than that benediction?
"KNOWN UNTO GOD ARE ALL HIS WORKS FROM THE BEGINNING OF
THE WORLD." (Acts 15:18)
Leaving immediately for the city of Juda, the young
cousin, "overshadowed" with the "power of the Highest"
visited her elderly, very pregnant mentor. Upon Mary's arrival, Elisabeth
cried out, "Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the
fruit or thy womb!" (Luke 1:42) With such affirmation, how
could Mary ever consider an abortion?
THE FRENZY OF THE A HUSBAND
Meanwhile back in Nazareth, God had to deal with a "just man"
named Joseph of Nazareth. What a predicament! Here he and the beautiful
Mary were "betrothed" for marriage. That betrothal had been
recognized by the village of Nazareth, as well as the community's legal
authorities. Everyone considered them, not only "a couple," but "man"
and "wife." Though they had never had marriage relations, or had
they ever slept in the same bed, or had been promiscuous in any way, they
were still considered "married" in the eyes of all the public. "A betrothal" in those days was far
different from an "engagement" in the present century of the reader. To
break a "betrothal," the "husband" would have to take legal
action. That action was called a "divorce."
In His adult life, as a teacher of God's truth, Jesus
spoke of such a "divorcement" when he said, ". . .Whosoever
shall put away [divorce] his wife, except it be for fornication
and shall marry another, committeth adultery. . ." Later after Jesus'
ascension, the believers were instructed to "abstain from . .
.fornication" (Acts 15:29). Paul, too, warned Christians
that it was God's will for them to "abstain from fornication" (I
Thessalonians 4:3). The Church was to mortify or destroy with
vigor the appetite for any kind of illicit sexual relations
(Colossians 3:5).
Though confused and humiliated, Joseph knew that such
public action would bring disgrace to Mary and her family. Everyone would
know that the sweet, innocent Mary was not as sweet and innocent as she
had been portrayed. All would realize she had fallen into the sexual sin
of "fornication." Of course, that meant stoning and certain death
for the pregnant one. Could he, who loved her so, do that to Mary? Even
though Joseph's disappointment was greater than words can describe, he
still did not wish to doom her to such a fate. Perhaps he could "divorce"
her privately. Did it ever enter this carpenter's mind to pay for an
abortion? Did he think this would be a way of escape? Would killing the
unborn child have been the easy way out? He and Mary could then continue
their "betrothal" and soon-marriage. No one would
be the wiser! Of course, they would know. All their lives it would haunt
them. But worse than their private nightmare, God would know! He would
know the scheming and the subterfuge, as well as abortion's cutting
knife and the silent scream of the still-born child, the Son of God!
THE FINALIZATION OF THE PLAN
The Bible says "But while he [Joseph] thought
on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a
dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto
thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy
Ghost!" (Matthew 1:20)
How kind of the angel of the Lord to bring assurance and
comfort to the troubled heart of Mary's betrothed. Can't you feel the
man's relief? The tension in his muscles relaxed. The pain in his heart
was stilled. The jumbled thoughts of divorce, humiliation, and, perhaps,
abortion vanished. God had spoken! Joseph believed!
To top off the news, Joseph was told that it would be a
boy! He was given the name! The boy baby's name would be JESUS. The child
was given a life's mission. He would save His people from their sins.
What wonder! Carpenter Joseph--a humble laborer, a worker with his hands,
would be the male care-giver and protector of Emmanuel and the Virgin. As
the time of Mary's delivery drew near, the amazement of it all slowly
dawned upon the godly man. He and Mary were God's instruments to fulfill
the prophecy of Isaiah. "God with us" is what the
dream declared and it proved to be true. JESUS--! God in the
flesh! "For He shall save His people from their sins" (Matthew 2:21).
Perhaps Joseph never fully understood the mystery of
it all. Like Mary, he accepted the will of God in his life. His mandate
was to protect that Holy Child, the "seed" of Abraham, the future
King from David's line, and promised Messiah. "Just" Joseph did
not "know" his wife, Mary, until after the "Holy One" was
born. After Mary's "first-born Son" came forth from her virgin
womb, the couple had several more children--born in the usual, normal way
of a man with a maid. We read about his brothers and sisters in the Bible
(Matthew 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21) thus showing us that Mary
gave birth to other children after her Bethlehem experience.
THE FULNESS OF TIME
How did Mary's miracle-conception come about? With all
the medical gynecological procedures, of which we read today, we learn
that some women do have babies who have never "known" a man. Those women,
who want to be mothers without marriage, are artificially inseminated
with the sperm of a friend or from a sperm bank. Some women, out of a
philanthropic emotion become surrogate mothers. They carry an unrelated
biological baby in their womb for other women. Other women, by
surrogating, have found an unusual way to earn large sums of money, as
well as have their physical needs taken care of for months. Mary never
heard of such a thing! On the other hand, it is true, there are women who
cannot carry their own children to full term. They miscarry quickly.
Also, it is sadly true, that some cannot become pregnant at all. Then,
there are those who are too vain to suffer the changes in their own
bodies to carry, as well as, to give birth in the manner of Eve, our
first mother. Be assured, dear reader, that none of the aforementioned
methods of conception were practiced in the Holy "overshadowing"
of Mary's body long ago in the little town of Nazareth.
"In the Beginning," when man was created out of
"the dust of the ground," God breathed into inanimate "dust,"
the "Breath of Life." It was then that man "became a living
soul!" But when A God sent forth His son, made of a woman
to redeem them that are under the law. . .," the Son, who always was with
the Father from the beginning, was "Spirit" and had no body (John
4:24). "In the fulness of time," --right there when Gabriel spoke
to the frightened virgin--a body was being prepared within Mary by the
Father & Holy Spirit for the Son.. We read in Hebrews 10:5 a startling
verse: "Wherefore when He (JESUS) cometh into the world, He
(JESUS) saith (TO GOD, THE FATHER), Sacrifice and offering
thou wouldest not, but a body hast Thou prepared Me." It was with a
complete submission to the Heavenly Father's will that Jesus came into
the world to save sinners. The LORD Jesus Christ committed Himself to
such a "lower" assignment (Hebrews 2:9) by saying to His Father,
"Lo, I come to do thy will, O God!" Jesus was under His Father's
complete command (Hebrews 10:9). What a miracle! What a Saviour!
What a God!
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
And shall call His name Immanuel.
ISAIAH 7:14
AN ULTRASOUND DEVICE IN BIBLE TIMES?
Mary, the mother of Jesus, did not have an abortion. I
personally don't think she even considered it! She was a godly Hebrew
girl with high morals and ethical standards. She did not ask to be the
vessel of the Lord! No! She was going along her way, like every other day
of her life, when Gabriel startled her with the news of her pregnancy.
She had absolutely no choice in the matter! If there had been an
ultrasound device that would have allowed the virgin girl to see a
picture of Jesus in her womb, her determination to give birth to that
Holy Child would not have been any greater than it was the day the Angel
made his startling announcement. She wanted that Baby!--even though His
birth would be the end of life as she knew it, and it would bring
humiliation instead of acceptance in her town. All this adoration of Mary
that has developed in the recent centuries is not how it was when she was
alive, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, while He was walking the earth,
or at His crucifixion. She was a specially chosen woman to bring the Son
of God into the world--that is all. It was never God's plan for this
maiden to be worshiped. The wise men knew this when they found the young
Child, gave Him gifts, and fell down at His feet in worship--not his
mother's. Mary knew the truth and that Truth would set her free! I hope
that you are free from such false doctrine!
GENERAL ELECTRIC'S A REALTIME 4D"
TODAY women are able to peek inside their bodies, with
the aid of General Electric's "realtime 4D" ultrasound device.
Unborn babies look like born babies as the camera focuses in on the womb.
Mothers can see their little ones--whether boy or girl. They can see them
move, smile, suck their thumbs or whatever. It was exciting enough with
the conventional 2E images we had before. When I was a "mother-to-be,"
these new-fangled inventions were not discovered yet. Why, I remember
seeing our youngest granddaughter's first picture as she was sheltered
within her mother's body waiting to be born! The other day on
television, I saw ABC's news woman, Elizabeth Vargas, and her husband
watch their unborn child within her womb. They were thrilled to see their
child! I would have been, too.
3,500 BABIES ABORTED EVERY DAY
How could anyone, after seeing her baby alive and well,
yet unborn, would want to kill that person? I don't know. Yet, I read in
CARE (a letter from a network for Women in Crisis) that "more
than 3,500 mothers give up their babies to abortionists every day. . ."
And according to the Allan Guttmacher Institute, "if these rates
continue, 43 % of women will have at least one abortion by the age of 45."
Are you one of them?
A NEVER-MARRIED WOMEN ARE MORE THAN FIVE TIMES AS
LIKELY AS MARRIED WOMEN TO HAVE ABORTIONS. UNMARRIED COHABITING WOMEN ARE
NINE TIMES AS LIKELY TO HAVE ABORTIONS AS MARRIED WOMEN LIVING WITH THEIR
HUSBAND." (October, 1993 "Family Research Council." )
Recently I read a clipping in THE SWORD OF THE
LORD taken from the Christian Action Council that in
1980--that was over twenty years ago, mind you--women, who in the
past five to ten years chose abortion, had long-term
manifestations of stress. 81% reported preoccupation with the
aborted child.
73% reported flashbacks of the abortion experience.
69% reported feelings of "craziness" after the abortion.
54% recalled nightmares related to the abortion.
35% had perceived visitations from the aborted child.
23% reported hallucinations related to the abortion.
96% regarded abortion as the taking of a life, or as
murder.
"It is sad that many Americans don't realize that
more than 43 million babies have been aborted since the ROE v WADE
decision." (K. L. Connor, FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL, February 1, 2002)
Also, I read this from Synda Masse, Pro-Life Infonet:
"Many of us don't feel like mothers, yet we're
mothers of dead children.
There is no way we ever stop being a mother once we've
been pregnant."
SADNESS OVER PLIGHT OF COWS INSTEAD OF BABIES
Back a few months ago, I read how the Washington Post
filled its front page with frames of cows being slaughtered. The living
animals were pictured blinking and in a conscious state while being
carved up into marketable chunks of meat. They must have been gruesome
pictures indeed. Mr. Ken Connor in the Washington Watch (May,
2001) noticed this, too. His mind went to all the aborted babies and
their personal suffering. Where were their pictures on the front page of
the Washington Post? Mr. Connor wrote:
"Would it not have been refreshing, however, if
at any time in the past 28 years, the Washington Post had found room
in its front page to depict as dramatically, the death struggle of
unborn children during the abortion process? They, too, die blinking,
shocked, dismembered piece by piece without benefit of anesthesia;
yet the pro-abortion militancy of the Post has kept its lens cover
tightly closed. When will the media recognize the selectivity of its
repulsions?"
ANCIENT SEMITIC IDOLATRY KILLED
BABIES, TOO
Mothers who have aborted their children remind me of
those parents long ago who honored their Semitic deity by the sacrifice
of their children. They were passed through or into fire. Excavations in
Palestine have found infant skeletons in burial places around heathen
shrines. I read in THE NEW UNGER'S BIBLE DICTIONARY the
following:
"Ammonites revered Molech as a protecting father.
Worship of Molech was stringently prohibited by Hebrew Law. Solomon
built an altar to Molech at Topheth in the valley of Hinnom. Manasseh
in his idolatrous orgy, also honored this deity. Josiah desecrated
the Hinnom valley altar, but Jehoiakim revived the cult. The prophets
sternly denounced this form of heathen worship. No form of ancient
Semitic idolatry was more abhorrent than Molech worship."
NEED I SAY MORE?
BFT NEWS YOU CAN USE
I MUST THANK YOU WHO HAVE COME TO OUR FINANCIAL RESCUE.
BUT YOUR OFFERINGS ARE STILL
NEEDED
The response to my husband's BIBLE FOR TODAY'S
financial need has been overwhelming. I wish that I could say that the BFT is solvent at this writing; but I can't. WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP TO
GET US ON OUR FINANCIAL FEET AGAIN. Remember, we are a tax- deductible
Christian organization. The BFT is still thousands of dollars in the
hole. I think it is about six-or-seven-thousand, and that doesn't count
the weekly salaries and continuing monthly bills--for
instance for our copy machines--$750 a month or the$30,000 for DEFINED
KING JAMES BIBLES coming this week in a great big truck.
You who know Dr. Waite at all, know that he seldom begs
for money. It's against his moral fiber, but he saw no other way to keep
the BIBLE FOR TODAY up & running as you & I know it. We have printing
costs and our staff consists of one full-time man, our son Daniel Waite,
and two part-time helpers, Barbara in the office & Josh in the shipping
department, as well as Dr. Waite and me who don't get paid. In fact, we
pay a lot of the everyday bills like lights & heat, phones, etc.
ourselves. Our staff is excellent & efficient! To let them go would be a
great loss. You'd feel it immediately!
As it is, we were compelled to let our oldest son, Don,
Jr, our research/writer go! Remember he is the footnote author of the
DEFINED KING JAMES BIBLE (BFT #3000). The Lord was good to him.
Suddenly a teaching job opened up in the Christian school where he had
worked for over twenty-five years prior to coming to our BFT aid. This
was most unusual, for classes had already begun and there was an English
teacher on the school's payroll. But God knew our son's need. The
teacher decided, after a few days of teaching, that she did not belong in
that classroom--thus an emergency opening. It was like the ravens who
brought bread to the hungering Elijah (I Kings 17:4). Don, Jr. was a
major researcher for the BFT. It is a loss! Hopefully, as he adjusts to
his new schedule, he will be able to work part-time for us. There are
some unfinished needed projects on his desk.

DEAN BURGON SOCIETY'S 24TH ANNUAL MESSAGE BOOK
(BFT # 3075-P " $17.00 + $5.00 S&H) Though more
messages were delivered at the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in
Arden, North Carolina this year, the 165-PAGE MESSAGE BOOK contains only
those which were turned into the office for this printing. Messages from
men like Michigan's B. BARNETT (the DBS vice president), Medical Doctor,
H. D. WILLIAMS (a new Advisory member from Georgia), Humorist EDWARD DeWITT from Illinois, World Evangelist J. P. RENO from Maryland, and
Canada's G. E. La MORE, as well as Indiana's CLINTON BRANINE are in the
book. You'll want to read WHICH TEXT? WHY YOU SHOULD USE THE KING
JAMES BIBLE by Wisconsin's D. L. BROWN as well as missionary DAVID
BENNETT'S stirring "STANDING FOR THE KING JAMES BIBLE IN MISSIONS,"
and the much needed defense by THOMAS STROUSE on PSALM 12:6-7
AND THE PERMANENT PRESERVATION OF GOD'S WORDS. TED GRASSER's report
on the DBS' website was well received. My husband, D. A. WAITE, SR. gave
a valuable message on THE FUNDAMENTALISTS' CONTINENTAL DIVIDE. As
you know, there is a great divide that has come into Bible-
believing colleges, seminaries and churches in regards to the
preservation of the very words of God. If you don't know it already,
the battle is raging in that area of Biblical defense.
A PLEA FOR A PERFECT BIBLE BY JEFFREY KHOO
HAS STIRRED UP SOME SINGAPORIAN CHRISTIANS
Rev. Jeffery Khoo, B.Th., M.Div., STM., Ph.D. is the
academic dean and a lecturer in New Testament at the FAR EASTERN BIBLE
COLLEGE AND SEMINARY in the Republic of Singapore. Through much personal
study, he has written an article for the college's theological journal,
THE BURNING BUSH, which he edits. His article "PLEA FOR A
PERFECT BIBLE (BFT #3094 " $2.00 + $2.00 S&H) has caused quite a stir
among his friends & enemies (former friends) in Singapore. It has come to
verbal blows and dismissals. Dr. Khoo covers subjects such as verbal,
plenary inspiration of the Bible, apparent discrepancies or A scribal
errors," and asks questions like, "Did God allow any of His inspired
words in the autographs to be lost during the transmission process?
His chart on page 11 is excellent. It gives the three views on the
"perfection" of the Bible. One of his conclusions is that
he does affirm that the Hebrew OT Scriptures and the Greek NT Scriptures
are "kept pure in all ages" as taught in the Westminister Confession.
This is where some of the Westcott/ Hort liberal-fundamentalist
followers fell apart--literally. In my opinion, they should be ashamed of
themselves!
THE LIFE THAT WINS!--A BOOK BY DENIS GIBSON
BFT #3093 @ $15.00 + $4.00 S&H
Have you been looking for a daily devotional guide based
on the book of Proverbs? If so, you'll be blessed, not only by the
wisdom of King Solomon, but also, by the wisdom of Pastor Denis as he
explains each verse to you. My husband and I know Pastor Dennis
personally. He is one of the executive committee members of the DEAN
BURGON SOCIETY. (The society will be 25 years old this July; and my
husband has been its president all these years.) I personally look
forward to the author's speeches every year. He is an excellent
researcher and his Irish accent is intriguing--beside that, he is nice
looking, too. Several years ago, I read Pastor Denis' devotionals along
with other readers of READ, PRAY, & GROW. That's the daily
devotional published by Dr. S. H. Tow out of Singapore. Besides this book
being a wonderful spiritual help for you, it would be an ideal gift for a
relative or a friend. Think about it!
I TIMOTHY VIDEO & AUDIO TAPES
Video (BFT #3085VC1-3 @ $15.00 + $4.00 S&H)
Audio (BFT #3085/1-6 @ $18.00 + $2.00 S&H
Can't remember if you ordered any of my husband's BIBLE
FOR TODAY BAPTIST CHURCH sermon tapes or not. I recommend them for your
learning. We have been in I TIMOTHY. It would be worth the whole series
to hear what the Bible says what the duties of a Pastor are. Then, some
of you will be utterly surprised what a deacon is supposed to be. In some
areas of the country and in certain groups or denominations, deacons
think more highly of themselves than they should. A deacon is supposed to
be a HELPER--not someone who bosses the Pastor around. It is very
difficult for a pastor to do his job when the deacons think they are "little pastors."
