Satan is out to destroy Christians and their families!

I Peter 5:6-11

It was in a June/ 2002, USA TODAY in the A ACROSS THE USA section of that newspaper. An article caught my eye. A MUNSTER, INDIANA was the caption. It seemed that the fiftieth anniversary of the SAVE THE DUNES COUNCIL was in celebration! Back in 1966, two dozen women massed a movement to save the Indiana shoreline along Lake Michigan. And that was the beginning of the INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKE SHORE MOVEMENT. Since that time, the original 15,000 acres has doubled ! Why?--all because the cause was promoted by the Dunes Council!

Why am I telling you this? Well, back in April of this year, when my husband was giving his KING JAMES BIBLE SEMINAR #7 (BFT #3069VC1-4 $45.00 + $5.00 S&H) at Fairhaven Baptist College in Chesterton, Indiana, Dr. Waite and I saw those dunes.

A What is there to see around here, I asked Lindsey Leslie's mother. Lindsey was a precious down's syndrome girl with whom I had become acquainted. So, in knowing Lindsey, I got to know her mother. Earlier, my husband and I had driven around the area but always turning right on the main road--never turning left. We had explored the small town of Chesterton and looked at the nearby strip malls. AWhat else is there to see around here? I asked Mrs. Leslie as I left the dining hall one afternoon. It was then we learned about the INDIANA DUNES!

A Just turn left out of the college, and drive until you hit Lake Michigan, she said. At first I was not interested. You see, I'd seen Lake Michigan many times--having gone to Bible school in Chicago. My husband had graduated from the University of Michigan and my sister had lived in Northern Michigan for a few years. Yes, I remembered Lake Michigan. It was beautiful and blue, along prestigious Michigan Avenue in Chicago. It was fierce in the winter with its icy waves frozen high in their reach for shore near the Mackinac Bridge. Yes, I had seen Lake Michigan.

I had seen Lake Erie many times. Near Cleveland, Ohio, is where I was born. It is on Lake Erie. Often, when my husband and I were dating, we drove to Vermilion, Ohio, where his dad had a boat--The Dory Ann (named after his sisters). We used to sail on Lake Erie! I loved it! Yes, I knew Lake Michigan but I knew Lake Erie better!

So we turned left--just for something to do. Sure enough, as Lindsey's mother had said, ahead of us was BEAUTIFUL LAKE MICHIGAN. No doubt about it--it was there. Its blue lapping waters met the blue & white of the evening sky, making one wonder where the water ended and the sky began. BUT WE SPIED A MOST UNUSUAL SIGHT! Before the Lake were the DUNES! I couldn't believe my eyes--neither could my husband. I had seen sand dunes at the Atlantic's shore. That ocean is a couple of hours from where we live here in South Jersey; but I had never seen anything like the INDIANA DUNES! As we drove towards the water, our eyes were fastened to the right and to the left of us. Like great sand hills and mountains, the dunes rose as ill-formed pyramids grabbing for the sky. We parked the car on what, we presumed, was a parking lot. It was covered with sand. The sand blew about us. It seemed to have a swirling purpose to cover the earth. Over yonder was a large expanse of flat sand, too. We found out later, it, also, was a parking lot. We learned that big machines have to scrap the sand away during the season--like snow plowing, I guess.

Then the lake itself was a surprise! I am used to seeing a lake lap itself in tiny ripples against the shore; or during a storm, see it churn and move like a restless monster; but that day in April of 2002, I saw a steel, fenced-off area, channeling white water, from somewhere, out into the blue lake. Another sight to meet our eyes was a large sign which warned:

Soon we saw two strangers braving the wind and the sand, like we were doing, that evening. I inquired about the odd channeling of water into the lake. It was then, we discovered that white water was drainage from the surrounding areas. There were pipes under the mountainous sand dooms which emptied its water into the lake.

When I told my husband I was writing about the INDIANA DUNES, he wondered why and stated, AWe saw them a long time ago! AYes that was true, I said, Abut I never had space to tell my friends about them before.

Sometimes if we just take a different turn in life, our lives are changed. I had no idea there was such beauty in the opposite direction of where we were used to traveling while in Chesterton. That's the way with many things in life. We are on a treadmill, so to speak, of A same-same. It is good once in a while to examine ourselves and see what we are doing and where we are going. ARE WE GOING IN THE DIRECTION GOD WOULD HAVE US GO? The Bible says that we should examine ourselves to see if we are really in the faith.

TALK ABOUT A SELF-EXAMINATIONS! Medical experts keep telling us to do this, don't they? I am afraid that some of us think we are Christians when we really haven't had a A born-again change in our lives. What has changed since you accepted Jesus Christ? Are you A same-same? Are you doing the same things, going the same places, using the name of the Lord in vain, and destroying your body, God's temple, with booze and cigarettes--to say nothing of pornography or over-eating which has produced a pot belly! Has Jesus Christ gotten ahold of you and shaken you from the old paths and unsaved friends?

I'm thinking of a dear friend, as I write. Her husband is chained to cocaine and alcohol. He is ruining his life and wants to ruin hers and their children. I don't suppose there is nothing more selfish than a A user unless it is a mentally ill person. They both think the world revolves around them--and it doesn't. But they do their best to make everyone think so.

How true! Not only out there on the INDIANA DUNES but right here in our homes. I remember several years ago when a young teen ager--maybe fifteen or so--forgot to wear her glasses. That morning, she and a friend were crossing a street. Her friend saw the car. She didn't. I attended her funeral four or five days later. What a shock! We went into a restaurant near us. We go there off and on. The owner had died. His wife said it was an aneurism. She said he lived one day to talk with her and ten days as a vegetable before he passed on. Yes, DEATH CAN OCCUR. Some day, unless Jesus comes, someone will be writing about me and my death--and about yours, too. Morbid? Maybe! But a fact, we cannot escape.

In September, my husband and I went to a A FIRST. We attended a A marriage vows renewal service. A young daughter had disappointed her family by marrying a young man without the complete smile of her parents. They love the young groom now, but hardly knew him then. As the months went on, the young couple wanted to make it right. So the bride and groom invited his and her grandparents and their siblings, as well as their parents, of course, to have a renewal of their vows in the front yard of her parents' home. The two families got to know each other for the first time. Surprisingly, the families had some things in common. It was a dear ceremony, with wedding dress, flowers, attendants, and her father, walking her down the aisle. I was touched! Both sets of parents did all the things that would have been done if it had been their original wedding--even a wedding cake! It is hoped that God, Time, and Experience will teach this couple to Awalk in the Light (I John 1:7)--that walk with God that is necessary for a contented Christian life. It is a A walk of FAITH not sight! As we--who have been married for a while--know, it takes more than saying A vows or A renewing vows to make a marriage work. It is commitment, dedication to one another, and a willingness not always to be right. Sometimes it takes about fifty years for that to come about. It is so easy to look around and see greener grass on the other side of the fence. Talk about A HIGH WAVES--UNDERTOW. Such dangers can be the pitfalls in marriage as well by the Indiana Dunes on Lake Michigan.

It seems like this past month of September has been a A catch-up month. When we travel so much in the summer, have guests, write UPDATES, prepare sermons (my husband), do radio programs (both of us)--church services, as well as the ones defending the King James Bible & Just For Women, and prepare the September ,2002 BIBLE FOR TODAY NEWSREPORT, we can't get much else done.

My husband is struggling to find time to continue writing MAKING MARRIAGE MELODIOUS--to say nothing of his work on his book, PHILIPPIANS--Preaching Verse by Verse. His target date is before February 14th when he will be speaking, Lord willing, at a dinner gathering for sweethearts at THE COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH, 613 Uniontown Rd., Westminster, MD 21158 with Pastor Mike Roadcup on Friday, February 14th. (Phone: 410-848-0899). Why not slip in after the banquet and listen to his talk! You might get a book, who knows?

Oh, by the time you receive this, the meetings in Towaco, NJ (October 12-13) will probably be over. Dr. Waite will be with Dr. Moses Yang and his Evangelical Mission & Seminary International on Alpine Rd. teaching on the defense of the King James Bible. This is a Chinese Church and Seminary. My husband has been with them several times. I've attended also. I didn't go last year; but plan, Lord willing, to be there this year.

Though it wasn't a preaching time, my husband and I drove down to the shore to Long Beach Island and saw Barnegat Light again. I wrote about this in the September BFT NEWSREPORT. It was a dear time with my husband of 54 years. We didn't stay overnight, as we sometimes do on our anniversaries. I just wanted to be home in my own bed! I'd been away so much recently. Because of various skin cancer evidences, my husband has to stay out of the sun. He sheltered himself from the sun's rays with a big blue & white umbrella, as well as a hat. The children on our walk by the sea were confused. One little boy said to his father, AIt is raining! Of course, it wasn't--but aren't umbrellas for rain?

Pastor Waite has been preaching from the book of I Timothy lately. He told me that he's had UNUSUAL liberty in his preaching this past month. I don't know if you know it or not, but a pastor, when preaching , can sense discontent in his people as he gives forth the Word of God on a Sunday morning. I personally think it is better for a person to go to another church than to sit in church looking like a sour pickle. Some of the titles from I Timothy have been AFIFTEEN REASONS FOR LAWS (1 Timothy 1:1-10), AJESUS CHRIST SAVES SINNERS (1 Timothy 1:11-20), A A RANSOM FOR ALL (1 Timothy 2:1-7), and ANO WOMEN PREACHERS (1 Timothy 2:8-15). I hope you get the whole series of five chapters, when completed, (BFT #3085/1-5  $15.00 + $4.00 S&H). HAVE YOU HEARD DR. WAITE'S TEACHING-SERMONS FROM 1 & 2 THESSALONIANS YET? To say nothing of his verse-by-verse sermons in Hebrews, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, and 1 Peter. All these are on audio tape. IT IS THRILLING TO WELCOME THREE NEW VIDEO VIEWERS SINCE LAST WRITING YOU. My husband puts four church services with his sermons on one church video. We only ask for a gift of $15.00+$5 for S&H! That's a bargain! You know it is true if you have ever ordered sermon videos from other ministries. What a shame that people want to attend a church where there is good music and sound teaching from the King James Bible but they can't find one in their area! Are you one of those? A CHURCH IN THE HOUSE ISN'T ALL THAT BAD! It is definitely New Testament! We had someone from a different country tell us recently that she couldn't wait to get home to her impoverish land because she felt they lived like New Testament Christians. Why? She said that the Americans had too much in their refrigerators to pray AGive us this day our daily bread. What do you think is a sign that a church is a A New Testament church or that people are living in the A New Testament way? Should we give up our computers & telephones, our airplanes & automobiles, our vacuum cleaners & dishwashers, our washing machines & electric driers, our radios & televisions, or our electric lights and indoor plumbing? Would that make us better Christians? It got me to thinking!

AS I AM WRITING THIS, OUR CHURCH IS CELEBRATING ITS FOURTH YEAR AS A CHURCH IN OUR HOUSE. It's an exciting venture for Christ! Some have come and some have gone; but the Word of God endures forever. Why not help us celebrate by ordering sermons tapes? Or better still, COME SEE US!

Another adventure for us in the beginning of our fifth year is becoming the SENDING CHURCH for Missionaries Dr. David and Pamela Bennett. This is a step of faith for them and for us! In fact, the Bennetts left Australia yesterday (as this was written) for the United States. She has not been A home for awhile and is excited to see her children and grandchildren. Though we are a small church, we want to do our very best for these missionaries who have devoted twenty-three years to the land of Australia for Jesus Christ. Some day we can tell you about their bold stand for Jesus and the Textus Receptus (King James Bible) there, and in the USA, too. You will like it. Since writing you last, I've made two more Just For Women radio tapes. As you know, I do eight programs on one audio cassette. I felt the need to talk about A money last month. So I used our oldest son's pamphlet ADollar Sense For Christian Workers (BFT #2343 $2.00 + $2.00 S&H) as my main guide for the radio. Hope you order the tape (JFW/29 $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). Also on the end of that tape, I did one program on the financial need of the Bible For Today, Inc. I told of the gospel song, A I d Rather Have Jesus Than Silver or Gold that was sung at our wedding fifty-four years ago, and how I had to ask myself again, AIs that true FOR ME in 2002? Because of the financial crunch here in BFT Land, our researcher, D. A. Waite, Jr., the author of the DEFINED KING JAMES BIBLE (BFT #3000 $40, $35, $20, or $15 [depending on which size] + various amounts for S&H) has had to find other employment. PRAISE THE LORD, a teaching position opened up at the Christian School where he taught previously for over twenty-five years. He's teaching English again and only part time for BFT, Inc.

One morning I awakened with the thought that I should give my personal testimony to my radio listeners. I believe the Lord laid it on my heart. Then I remembered the devotional notebook I kept back in 1993, during a very difficult time in my life. I looked over those notes and decided to use it for October and probably into November on AThe ReMARKable Lord Jesus, devotions from the Gospel of Mark (JFW/30 $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). Once again my heart has been touched by Jesus!
