Pray for the Bennetts in Australia as they with God's help and for His glory are seeking to establish: Western Plains Baptist Fellowship, and Gilgandra Baptist Fellowship as New Testament Baptist churches.
Dear Prayer Partners,
J. C. Ryle (1816 Ė 1900) said "It is good to understand that Christís service never did secure a man from all the ills that flesh is heir to and never will.If you are a believer, you must reckon on having your share of sickness and pain, of sorrow and tears, of losses and crosses, of deaths and bereavements, of partings and separations, of vexations and disappointments, so long as you are in the body. Christ never undertakes that you shall get to heaven without these. He has undertaken that all who come to Him shall have all things pertaining to life and godliness; but He has never undertaken that He will make them prosperous, or rich, or healthy, and that death and sorrow shall never come to their family."
As most of you already know my (David writing) father passed away 21 February. He had been in hospital due to a stroke he had recently suffered and was later moved to hospice. His going into hospice prompted me to purchase a ticket to fly back to Iowa 22 February hoping to see dad before he passed away. We are 17 hours ahead of Iowa time and at the precise time I was flying out of Sydney, dad passed into eternity at 9 p.m. February 21, 2006, at Hospice House in Ottumwa, Iowa. I arrived in Ottumwa Thursday evening in time for the visitation Friday. Dadís funeral was Saturday 25 February at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. My brother, Pastor Randy Miller and I all had a part in the service. Thank you, Pastor Miller, for your kind words. Dadís body was laid to rest next to mom in McCormick Cemetery, near the home where they reared us three children.
There are so many to thank at this time but space will only allow me to mention three in this letter. My sister, brother, and I want to thank those who paid their last respect to dad by coming to the visitation and/or funeral. Thank you! Then there is the Bible Baptist Church, Ottumwa. Their generous gift helped defray some of the cost of my ticket. Thank you! Then one week end while I was in Iowa Bible For Today Baptist Church flew me out to New Jersey to preach. Their generous offering was also used toward payment for my ticket. Thank you!
Now both my parents are with the Lord. My text at momís funeral in 1999 was Psalm 116: 15 "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." Part of Spurgeonís exposition of this text says that "They shall not die prematurely; they shall be immortal till their work is done; and when their time shall come to die, then their deaths shall be precious. The Lord watches over their dying beds, smooths their pillows, sustains their hearts, and receives their souls. Those who are redeemed with precious blood are so dear to God that even their deaths are precious to him. The deathbeds of saints are very precious to the church, she often learns much from them; they are very precious to all believers, who delight to treasure up the last words of the departed; but they are most of all precious to the Lord Jehovah himself, who views the triumphant deaths of his gracious ones with sacred delight. If we have walked before him in the land of the living, we need not fear to die before him when the hour of our departure is at hand." When our time comes may we be able to say with Paul "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand" 2 Timothy 4:6.
In closing Pam and I want to thank you for your prayers and financial gifts.
