http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123249904737100583.html JANUARY 21, 2009 WHAT CHRISTIANS WATCH – (Edited by DCB) “Through a purely Hollywood lens, ‘Fireproof’ is the most unlikely film success since "Rocky." It was written by novice screenwriters, cast nearly entirely with amateurs, staffed largely by volunteers, and shot almost all on location. It wrapped for a total outlay of only $500,000.”
Fireproof is about “...a Christian fire captain who recommits to his marriage, collected more than $33 million -- and was the biggest-grossing indie movie of 2008 -- precisely because it was produced by a church in Albany, Ga., which then networked with other evangelicals and with Roman Catholics to create enormous grass-roots demand.”
The church behind this film is Sherwood Baptist where “...pastors Stephen and Alex Kendrick tested and verified their homemade business model with ‘Facing the Giants,’ a high-school football drama that brought in $10 million in 2006 after an outlay of just $100,000.”
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/4213994/Presenter-sacked-for-supporting-the-Bibles-teachings-on-radio.html 11 January 2009 PRESENTER SACKED FOR 'SUPPORTING THE BIBLE'S TEACHINGS' ON RADIO – (Edited by DCB) Community radio is very popular around the world and is operated by volunteers from within the community. Well, community radio Awaz FM has terminated Rev Mahboob Masih and his co-presenter for failing “...to remain neutral and as such allowed the guest to make comments which led in [to] offending various members of the community." Who are those “various members of the community” who were offended, Muslims?
Awaz is “predominantly run by Muslims and concentrates on targeting Muslim listeners.” So what brought this action on? “The Rev Masih and his co-presenter Afzal Umeed were discussing the views of a prominent Muslim speaker, Zakir Naik, who the Rev Masih accuses of belittling the Christian faith on Peace TV, a digital channel.
The Rev Masih says that Mr Umeed asked Asif Mall, a Christian on-air guest, about Mr Naik's remarks. Mr Mall said Mr Naik's comments showed a lack of knowledge of the Bible and of the Koran.
In particular, Mr Mall disputed a claim by Mr Naik that Jesus Christ was not the only prophet to be "the way, the truth and the life".” This according to the Awaz committee was offensive to the Muslim community.
January 24, 2009 INQUIRY'S LOADED BUT WITHOUT AIM (Edited by DCB) – The Australian Human Rights Commission “is once again on the job, protecting your human rights against those unseen forces of oppression that lurk in the Australian heartland. What could it be that threatens our way of life that the glass-ceiling, gay-friendly, wheelchair-ramp discrimination police, with their slogan "everyone, every day, everywhere", have not already uncovered after 30 years of dogged pursuit? Ever vigilant, they are investigating yet more threats to your liberty, specifically your religious freedom and beliefs.”
Why is the Australian Human Rights Commission doing an inquiry? “To answer that I had a look at the commission's template for submissions with its series of questions. There are sets of questions about the place of religious leaders in public debate, about religious bodies in public as part of the fabric and administration of social services and whole lot on cultural sensitivities and (surprise, surprise) "gender inclusivity" and "sexual diversities".”
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01232009/news/politics/prez_zings_gop_foe_in_a_timulating_talk_151572.htm PREZ ZINGS GOP FOE IN A $TIMULATING TALK 23 January 2009 – (Edited by DCB) WASHINGTON – Rush Limbaugh is not the last word on conservatism but he must have the ears of many Republicans as “President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill...that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.”
This statement was made when Obama invited the top Republican leaders “to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.” House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio said he was “concerned about the size of the package. And I'm concerned about some of the spending that's in there, [about] ... how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives.”
A follow-up on that statement is where “Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic "stimulus" package, claiming ‘contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.’”
Editor’s Comment: Psalm 127:3 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
Some of the liberal agenda of the new US administration are:
· Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.
· Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: President Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.
· Repeal Don't Ask-Don't Tell: President Obama agrees with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalikashvili and other military experts that we need to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The key test for military service should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Discrimination should be prohibited. The U.S. government has spent millions of dollars replacing troops kicked out of the military because of their sexual orientation. Additionally, more than 300 language experts have been fired under this policy, including more than 50 who are fluent in Arabic. The President will work with military leaders to repeal the current policy and ensure it helps accomplish our national defense goals.
