Standing unashamedly for the King James Bible
http://synergy.garbc.org/index.php?q=node/175 THROUGH THE BIBLE CHALLENGE (Edited by DCB) 29 December 2005. The article by the above name has as its main goal to encourage people to read the Scriptures through in one year. For this it is to be commended. Nearing the end of the article one is confronted with this: "Bible Versions - An explosion of translations, versions, and paraphrases has occurred over the last twenty years. It can be very confusing as well as intimidating. Unless we are phenomenal linguists and Bible scholars, we are relying on the words and works of others. What are we to do? Here are a few suggestions to consider:
* If in doubt, play it safe with a Bible version with which you are familiar.
* Use the version as a devotional Bible. Don’t base your theology on paraphrase-type Bibles.
* Read the preface of the version carefully to determine the purpose of the scholars.
· Check the web for evaluations and reviews.
· See your Christian bookstore for information."
Editor’s Comment: Most of us are not "phenomenal linguists" or "Bible scholars" so are these "suggestions" valid in determining what is God’s Word? Sadly most of the pastors in independent Baptist churches have gone schools where the King James Bible might be used in the class room but it is never, and I mean never, promoted as the God’s preserved Word in the English language! These schools have a low view of the KJ Bible and therefore do not use the Greek text (TR) underlying it but rather use a Critical Greek text which has undergone numerous editions and opposes the TR thousands of times. What these schools have taught these men is that we are still searching for God’s Word/s and these men go out and teach the same to their people. I like what Dr. Thomas Strouse said on page 21 of THE LORD GOD HATH SPOKEN "The KJV has been the Bible for English- speaking Christendom for most of the 380 years of its existence. The KJV, along with Shakespeare, has established and standardized the English language. Expressions from the KJV permeate the English language. Fundamentalists have identified with the KJV because of its textual and theological integrity, because of its beauty and strength of expression, and because of its protection from liberalism." Jeremiah was able to say "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart…" 15:16. Sadly those following the advice in the above article may never know the same joy Jeremiah did.
http://www.goarmy.com/chaplain/requirements.jsp CHAPLAIN REQUIRMENTS (Edited by DCB) One of the requirements to be a chaplain in the United States Army is to be "Sensitive to religious pluralism and able to provide for the free exercise of religion by all military personnel, their family members and civilians who work for the Army." Then there is this: Agape News 30 December 2005 "...Lieutenant Gordon James Klingenschmitt has a new three-year contract as a U.S. Navy chaplain, but is continuing the water-only fast he started a week ago Tuesday. Klingenschmitt says he has been ordered not to pray publicly in the name of Jesus while he is in uniform-- and will not eat again until he can." Editor’s Comment: Baptists supposedly hold to or have held to the separation of church and state and autonomy of the local church. How do these fit with a government paid chaplaincy and religious pluralism? Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says of religious pluarlism- "Religious pluralism is loosely defined term concerning peaceful relations between different religions, and is used in a number of related ways: Religious Pluralism often describes the worldview that one's religion is not the sole and exclusive source of truth, and thus recognizes that some level of truth and value exists in at least some other religions. Religious pluralism often is used as a synonym for ecumenism. At a minimum, ecumenism is the promotion of unity, co-operation, or improved understanding between different religions, or denominations within the same religion. Religious pluralism is sometimes used as a synonym for religious tolerance, which is a condition of peaceful co-existence between adherents of different religions or religious denominations." Something to think about.
http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/tribunals/apost_penit/documents/rc_trib_appen_doc_20051118_decreto-immacolata_en.html (Edited By DCB) This is on the Vatican web site and in part reads "On the upcoming Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the faithful may obtain this Indulgence on the usual conditions (sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff), in a spirit that is completely detached from affection for any sin, if they participate in a sacred rite in its honour or at least offer an open witness of Marian devotion before an image of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, displayed for public veneration, adding the recitation of the Our Father and the Creed and exclamatory invocations to Mary Immaculate, such as ‘You are All Fair, Mary, and in you there is no stain of original sin!’, or ‘O Queen, conceived without original sin, pray for us!’."
Editor’s Comment: Romans 3: 23 "For all (except Christ) have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Heb 9:28 "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." Re 19:20 "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone." "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" 2Ti 4:2. Yours against apostasy and for Biblical Truth,
